how do I focus on one area of website building

Hello ,

I was after some advice on specific website jobs e.g a PHP programmer, a flash designer, advertising, databases management, CSS etc etc. After teaching myself the basics of most major areas, I could build myself a website .....it would just take way toooo long. I would like to specialize in one particular area.
As I find myself becoming more interested in one subject maybe I should focus more towards that, but where to get started, where does one get involved with other projects .... lets say some small project to start building a portfolio...

Thanks .... look forward to meeting new people.

Depends ... which do you like best? Web Design (HTML, CSS) or Web Development (PHP)?

Once you've decided on that, make some projects of your own, build your portfolio and get out there.

You don't need to know PHP to create a website or be a web designer.

Well, i guess when it comes to learning for web designing and development purpose, the more, the merrier. However, if you just want to do the website design and development for getting some exposure and first-hand experience then I would suggest you need learn HTML and CSS for web designing and PHP for web development purpose.
