Re: Forum Software?

I think i will go with vBulletin. There is only 1 thing, when im on the purchase page on the vbulletin website i change the price from $USD to £GBP and the price in £GBP is £10 higher than the price it recommends on xe.com. :S

Re: Forum Software?

Hmm, weird. The only bad thing about VB is if you are going to get it you probably should invest in vbSEO as well. That way you can get more members faster.

Re: Forum Software?

vBSEO is not required, I don't use it (well not until the end of next month ), but many forums plod along fine without it.

If you do get vBulletin, I highly recommend the following FREE mods from vBulletin.org:-

vBSEO :: Sitemap Generator
Webforumz :: Better PM Notification (The standard pm notification is pappy, this is great)
Zoints Thread Tags
Multiple Login Detector
Inactive User Reminder Emails
Hide Links From Guests (will boost registration rates)
Guests First Post Only (will boost registration rates)
NoSpam! (Stops ALL bot registrations)

Re: Forum Software?

hahaha...I am so glad to see you like Webforumz PM notification Ross! It seems to be a popular install!

No it is not that VB is not good without VBSEO. It just makes things even better as far as SEO goes. You could easily buy the VB license, then when you get some extra cash purchase VBSEO, I highly recommend it as it will help you get more members! Also better search engine results!

Re: Forum Software?

Impex is a database importing system for vBulletin. Basically say for instance you had a phpBB forum and wanted to bring all your posts and members to vBulletin, you would install vBulletin then upload impex and point impex to the database of you phpBB board and it would import your members from phpBB to you vBulletin forum It's so simple!

Re: Forum Software?

Webforumz style was custom built by Rob and a team of developers. You can find some free ones on vbulletin.org and just customize them though.

Re: Forum Software?

simonb, explain please? Thanks Jacob, is it not like a vBSEO style? vBSEO has the exact same template/style on its forum. Ross i have already found this out its pretty neat.

Re: Forum Software?

phpBB3 is now fully supported but it is still a release candidate. I would say wait a month then go and get it for free. The phpBB community is massive and they have a good support team. Its far better than paying a yearly fee for updates.

EDIT - didn't realise it was 2 pages long. Guess I am too late.
