Directory Permissions

Hi,

I hope that I have chosen the correct thread to post in.

I am trying to run a php script which writes a .wav file to a directory on my (webhosted) server. I have changed the directory chmod permissions to 0777 to allow everyone permissions, but I cannot get the script to work. I wanted to ask, Is this the correct permission (0777)? Do the chmod permissions on the file that writes the file also have to set be set to a particular permission?

Thanks
Jewelz

Re: Directory Permissions

Make you have the permissions set to the parent directory too ... Let's say you have this directory structure

- i
---- video
---- other

and you put the video in the video directory, both the i and the video needs to have 777 permissions.

Maybe the problem lies with your host not allowing a certain file size to be uploaded via the web? I had that problem with my pictures on my blog and just asked him to boost the Mg a bit

Re: Directory Permissions

That was quick!, thank you karinne. I will set up the permission on the parent directory and see if that works. Is this quite a risky thing to do then, if I have it open access on my parent directory? people will be able to access my files.

Re: Directory Permissions

Hosts "normally" disable the index on image folders unless you have a index.html (.php) in there.

For example, instead of getting the directory listing, you get to something like this.

Re: Directory Permissions

No, still doesn't work for me, If the set up of the directories is fine now, then it may well be somewhere in the code itself. I will have to go though it again to make sure.

Re: Directory Permissions

Well ... post in the PHP forum concerning your code if you can't find it.

Re: Directory Permissions

Back when I was using a host that did not support directory blocking...aka, 403 pages...I always used to just though an index page in their and say something like Go Away, or buzz of freak.
