Email Service

I have this a bit, some might, some might not, I dunno, but again I am bored and thinking up ideas!

When you are away, and you suddenly realise you need to email someone, say, you are staying at a hotel. Your only email address is at home, and it's on your own domain, not a free online one. You don't want to sign up to Yahoo/Gmail for one email, but would rather trot down to the Internet Cafe and quickly email someone.

That's where 'QuickSend' (Any name) comes in.

Go to the address, and you are presented with a form. It has the following fields:
Your Name:
Your email Address:
Email Address to Send To:
Subject:
CC:
BCC:
Email Content:

Plus Spam Filter, etc.

Fill that out, click send. Your email is sent. The other person gets the email, and is told to reply to the email address in the form. Such as:
This Email was sent via QuickSend. The person who sent this email wishes you to reply to this email using the address: blahblah@blah.com

----

It could move on to allowing attachments to be added - but only if you pay a small fee (very small) to 'subscribe', which would give you more features. Including a very simple inbox, so people who recieve the messages from QuickSend can reply to them, so you can get their replies on the go as well.

Any good? Or is that just stupid? It seems good to me?

Re: Email Service

Sounds like a good idea. But it's quite a niche your aiming at (most people that are on-the-go, or are away, have an adequate alternative).

Plus the good old spammers out there would have their fun surely?

I suppose you could have an account system, where you sign up and validate your email, prior to going away, then all you do is sign in and send the emails you need to.

But then technically you're now just another free mail service, defeating the purpose of not having to sign up! Hmmm....

Re: Email Service

About the Spammers: It would be highly protected, needless to say. Captcha thingys, hidden forms, the lot.

Also I feel you would need to limit an IP address to sending more than 1 email a minute? That would prevent mass mail, and stop people overloading the servers. A limit of 20 a day or something. Then, if people start using that, they pay, say, £20 or something, and get unlimited for a year.

Any ideas on names Alex?

Re: Email Service

Something like mail.it or similar - short and simple, using a TLD as part of the name (like del.icio.us)?

(mail.it is taken )

Re: Email Service

Myself and saledtm8, who I drafted to help choose a name, spent literally 30-40mins thinking of names. We got some great ones - but all taken!

In the end it ended up as mail-send.net Not too bad, we both agreed the .net helped the name and the two big keywords are in the name. I then designed a logo, which will be up for critique, and saltedm8 helped me iron out the fine points. He even wrote a bit of the PHP script! Top man!
