Multi-league and Multi-tiered team schedule

Hello all,

I am in the process of designing a site for a local volleyball club. The design itself is pretty much done. Right now we're trying to wrap our heads around on how to design a league management system. Specs are as follows:

1) There will be multiple leagues.
2) Each league will have multiple divisions.
3) Each division will have multiple teams.

I'm not concerned so much about the back end management - we will be using PHP/MySQL as these are our languages of choice.

I'm concerned about the design aspect of this. I'm not exactly sure how I can cleanly present this information without both displaying everything at once or displaying too little and having users clicking 3 times to get the information they are looking for.

Has anyone seen a pretty functional design for something similar to the above?

I know the problem.
Last February I designed a site for a UK Rugby Club. See: http://verulamians.co.uk/

At first they wanted all the info on one page (One team next to the other - the width would have been 4-5 1024px screens)
Then we tried color coding the teams vertically (That was unacceptable to the fans, they wanted to print it out - and the colored ink was too much of an expense) So I added a down loadable excel file for printing.
Since it was all a rush job in the middle of the season that was enough.

Now I am planing to redo it with a separate sitemap only for the different tables.
I am also thinking of using SQL to update them.

I think we're going to have to implement an Ajax solution for ease of use... I will post it hear after to get opinions...
