Football Blog
Hi All,
I've been thinking of creating a blog/webzine on Premiership Football and possibly extending to the Championship.
There is tons of news site for football online, but not really a blog/webzine and I think it could kick off. I could get affiliations with all the unofficial sites that run right now and get lots of attention.
1) Do people think this is a good idea?
2) Idea for names?
3) Anyone want to team up?

Re: Football Blog
This could be quite a bit of work mate, especially if you are considering doing the championship as well.
You would have to include information about every club to retain readers, if it works though sounds like a great idea.
As for names, footymag, footyblog, studs-up, something like that?

Re: Football Blog
I'd be interested in something like this...and also being a part of it. I'd concentrate on just Premiership...get it up and running, find thwe workload and then decide whether or not you ahve the time and people to extend it.
What kind of thing were you thinking of including? Like a blog on all things premiership? or like match previews etc?
I'm liking Studs Up! thats cool. erm...can't think of any others right now!

Re: Football Blog
I agree there, it is a good idea mate, but would be alot of work, because the world of football is constantly changing!
I definately would not do the premiership and the championship, that is just way to much to begin with, I would just do the premiership and if that kicks off, and becomes bigger, and more people want to write for you, then yes add the championship.
Well, as I am a keen footballer myself, I wouldn't mind teaming up with you on this project.
As for the name, I am struggling, I am not very good at the ol' domain names choice, so I would leave that down to someone else.

Re: Football Blog
How about "jumpers for goal posts" ?
To me that is what football is all about, it's a leveler for all people, that everyone can communicate on. It's about going down the park with your mates, throwing down your jumpers and arguing over who is going in goal first. Then after an hour, a flip of a coin, two sprint races and keepy-upy comp, someone goes in goal and we play all afternoon.
However, you would find some tough competiton ( I personally like http://www.caughtoffside.com/) not only from fans sites already out there but also from the big newspapers (i.e. http://blogs.guardian.co.uk/sport/).
I think the main issue you are going to have to overcome is why would people read you, a unknown with no history in the game, over others who have been doing this for years or are affiliated with a big newspaper (and therefore automatically have credibility)?
This isn't meant to be a put down, but rather to highlight that this is huge challenge - I am sure that you will rise to it adequately.

Re: Football Blog
I agree it would be a huge challege and we certainly wouldn't get readers straight away - but it's something that can certainly work. A few ideas:
A live page on Match Days - One of the team could post everytime a goal was scored, with some information. It's done on the BBC, but it could be done again. Not sure.
In depth review of every Prem League match, predictions, etc. Any thing really.

Re: Football Blog
Hi Jack,
I am all for this idea, as I am helping you along the way with this, but I think that a live page on Match days would be really difficult thing to do, it means that one person would constantly be changing the page.
But, I think the in depth review of a premier league match is a good idea, just before the match with the likely line ups, whos got the best form, predictions, yeah I think these all can be incorporated to this football blog.

I haven't seen this done in football, bar the goal teleprinter updates.
I have seen it done for the Cricket though, however, cricket is a slower game and a ssuch allows you the time to update a site with a live feed. I think football moves to fast for this type of functionality, and I don;t think you woul dbe able to put across the speed and excitment into your posts if the game was moving quickly.
You still will need a WAG's section though [drool]Cherly Tweedy [/drool] (I refuse to call her Cole!)
What about the name suggesstions:
- jumpers for goalposts
- funny old game
The second one shows that the site is about you and you comments, rather than latestes news etc, althought this will be a feature.

Re: Football Blog
Stew - http://www.afunnyoldgame.com/
I love jumpers for goalposts.
Ok, so the live idea is probably too much, but what if I made a table that contained all the entries, and a backend with a form to submit with the goals?
If not, we could certainly do:
Preview
Half Time Update
Full Time
Then cover all the interviews, etc.

Re: Football Blog
I still think that the up to date score keeping will be to much work, and I really don't think it will work, but I like the idea of the preview, half time reports and Full time reports.

Re: Football Blog
Ok fair enough no live updating.
We *could* also set up a prediction league, or something. Offer a prize or something. Not sure. It would work at first, but then if we get 200 people playing, the manual updating would be a pain, it would need to be done automatically.
Something like that to draw the people in.
Also - .com or .co.uk?
