Visit Falmouth
Myself and brother, who both live in Falmouth (Cornwall) and my dad, are creating a site for people coming down to Falmouth. We are writing to all the hotels, cafes, restaurants, etc, in Falmouth and giving them a place on the site.
So basically, what information do you need to know? And what should be shown on the home page? I want to make sure I get the balance between good design, pictures, and text. It needs to be easy to navigate and quick to find what you need.
So, ideas welcome.
Cheers!

Were Falmouth is like road maps etc
Price of a stay, what there is to do,
Try to think in the visitors mind not yours.

Re: Visit Falmouth
days out, things such as good beaches, things for all the family.
I would definitely include a map, perhaps have a featured restaurant on your home page etc?

Re: Visit Falmouth
i was involved in the initial concept of something very similar:
take a look at this: http://www.webster.uk.net
i was only involved in the planning stages, but most of the ideas were carried through in the end. the cms i wasn't involved in, and obviously this is government paid for project, but you may get a few ideas from it.
good luck

Re: Visit Falmouth
Trouble with catering for so many interests on the home page, you want to get people to know almost instantly that there will be someting of use them, so that they click deeper.
If its food/accomodation orientated, then a simple topic list of types to choose from (traditional? chinese? seafood?) maybe an option, and do the hotels think of themselves in terms of ratings, four star etc. You know, give it a structure that users can 'filter' and immediately home in on their interests.
Even though I suggest a list, the other thing I dislike about some home pages is that they do try to give way too much at once, and thats just as off putting. What works is when a home page gives an essence of quality, that it can be trusted, and will give me the information I am after once I start looking. If you grab peoples interests that way, you are half way there.
Maybe not the reply you were after but you've helped me a lot on other posts recently so I thought this might be of use.
cheers
