New design needs something, can you help me find what it is?

I have a new design I have been working on. I want it to be something that is different, but at the same time I want it to look good. I've had a hard time tying everything that I wanted in together, but Finally I found something that melds together well. Now the problem is that it looks like it is still missing something, or maybe something needs to be changed. Any suggestions are much appreciated.

The lite background color does not match the whole things...
overall, looks simple and happy site!

Try using a texture, like faded stripes, on the banner (here's an example) -the blue banner. Very subtle but really add's to the design. Also simply personal preference, I wouldn't go with that font for your SiteName.

Like the side tabs btw

Try google for Theme Color or something similar!

Ok, found some color palettes and played around for a little while on them. BTW, quick replies . Here's the 3 samples (Original is first for ease).

What about a gradient background? Just another idea

I like the last one myselt, but the link button color is too bright not matching the content bg color. Try using some low saturation color (not too bright) for the menu link button

Yeah, I am going to play around with the third Preview and change the tabs to a better suiting color. I appreciate all the help guys, It really does look a LOT better now!

Sometimes when you get someone else's view, it really helps you out.
