Onshore or offshore development?
Hi all,
I'm not a developer but need advice please! I'm specing out a new web project for a publisher and need some advice about getting it built. I like the sound of getting it done offshore as it will be cheaper, but does anyone know of any good overseas agencies? Or, if not, of any good UK agencies or individuals who may want to do it. It's a new consumer website with CMS, and social network functionality - forum, blogs, vid uploads, groups/clubs. Thanks loads to anyone that can help. |

I don't know any agencies, but I have used get a freelancer
to find both onshore and offshore professionals who do an excellent job. You can also post in webforumz job offered section Stew

Hi Stew
Great, thanks for that. I'll give that a go. I just had a look at your website -looks good. Did you get that developed by someone from that website? Cheers, Debs |

Re: Onshore or offshore development?
Hi Debs,
No, that one was me, although it uses a cms system, which although good for the customer is a pain for me. I did use the website to get advise and guidence for www.eithafcymru.com, but simple because i hadn't found this website and needed 121 tutorship to learn php. The contractor was really good and talked me through what I needed to understand in order to customise it how I wanted (it's a php site). You just put your requirements and a bid range and then wait for thebids to come in. you can view the past reviews and ask for some clients tosee the end product, so it's real easy. once you chose someone you put the cash into a holding account, they then start the work. once compelte and you are happy, you then release the funds. hope that helps

Re: Onshore or offshore development?
Thanks Stew, it sounds good. It sounds like a dream that you can pay people a few hundred dollars and they can get you say 1000 more unique users to your site! I'm just wondering what the catch is!
Rather than SEO stuff though, I really need to get a website built. It is a huge project - cms, forum, blogs, portal functions, social network etc. I've been to agencies in the UK and am waiting for quotes - I just know they are going to be really high and am interested in going overseas. This freelance route seems interesting but also a risk on such a big project. Question though - if I put a spec up, am I under any kind of obligation to go with one of the bidders? Or could I change my mind? Thanks! |
