Re: In your opinion
Of course, it all depends on the theme. Sometimes it's easier to advise on what to stay away from: colours that clash, lack of contrast, red on blue, too much lime green etc.
Use a colour analyser (dozens on Google) to get complimentary colours, check contrast (accessibility issues), try for restful on the eye (pastels) etc. Some sites now stick to natural colours e.g. sand, pale blue, browns. Again, you can Google for these. As for fonts, Comic Sans and similar are better for accessibility, but you've also got to bear in mind what the average user has installed. A nice fancy font may just render as Times New Roman and break your layout. If you have to use fancy, put it in a graphic (with the usual caveats). Anyway, JMHO. There you go, natural colours for the newsletter! Last edited by matelot; Aug 1st, 2007 at 16:18. Reason: Just seen the newsletter |

Re: In your opinion
A lot of Linux users download msttcorefonts, so will have it. The newer distros have it included automatically.
It's the fancy stuff nobody has that causes the problem. |

Re: In your opinion
IMO, colors are a personal thing if the site is a blog or defined by the company/logo/etc...
You can get great color palettes from sites like COLORLovers or kuler As for fonts, here is a list to common fonts to all versions of Windows and Mac |

Re: In your opinion
Thanks for that site.
I made this: ![]() I like it. But when i think it's for a game website it doesn't seem bright enough. then i brighten it and it looks tacky.

Re: In your opinion
Hi,
Verdana was created for easy reading and on a website this is very important. I prefer to use white / or off white background colours and black or dark grey colours for fonts. I know this sounds boring but it's the user of the website which will be viewing pages and it is important that they can read the information acuratly. I have created over 60 websites for my clients and you can view my portfolio at the following url: http://www.dcpweb.co.uk/portfolio.html Check out some of the websites I have created and I hope you can find a good font and colour combination. regards p shah - www.dcpweb.co.uk |

Re: In your opinion
I don't find your site boring.
because it's bright, only small amounts of dark colours. I'm making a flash game site (to go with the 4 million on google) I need to use bright colours i think.

Re: In your opinion
Hi Alex
Here's something to try when your stuck for inspiration. Find a photo or something - anything with colors you like in it (magazine ad, sweater, painting...) and use that to pull your color scheme from. For an example; the pattern in the attachment is a photoshop filter. It's got several different blues, violets and oranges in it. I used some of those to come up with this scheme. Of course, you'll want to keep in mind the mood you're trying to create to match your game. And by the way, I don't think Comic sans goes with anything - it's been done to death! Check out: http://bancomicsans.com/home.html Hope this gives you some ideas- Callie |
