Should I make my 'Counter' visible or hidden on my home page? Do webmaster use counters anymore?

I'd use google analytics - small piece of code onto every page and then you can track and trace how your site is performing and which pages need some work.

I do not use them but again it's personal choice. Most of my clients are new start ups and it's not good when you see 25 hits or 231 hits. I think that just looks like your site isn't busy. Any negative reaction is something I try to avoid. My opinion of course.
