client wants to update one page regularly

Hi,
If a client of an existing site wishes to update a table of information on one of the pages, themselves, regularly, does anyone know the easiest and simplest way we can help them do it?
I gather there are programs we could buy, or there are certain ways of coding we could learn, but all they need to do is update some information within one of the pages. The information has been built to display within a table in the centre of the page (they neednt have access to the remainder of the page).
The site was built with dreamweaver if that makes a difference, and we could get all the content info and uploading details if needed.
Do we need to supply them with software, or help them install something?, can we limit their access to the remainder of the site? Can this be done for little cost?
thanks
Gerry

It could be easily achieve with a sort of administrative section. I usually supply one when I create website for my clients. They can add news or products or pictures, etc....

You can store the info in a database and extract it. That how I do it. With PHP.

Re: client wants to update one page regularly

Thanks. If we look for tutorials on php will that teach us everything to do it the way you describe? What do we actually give the client, and what would it involve them having to do each update?
(as you can tell, we are able to build static websites, but this is new...)
Cheers again
Gerry

Macromedia Contribute. Under $100 and works flawlessly with Dreamweaver.
They buy Contribute and can have access only to text!

Perfect!

Re: client wants to update one page regularly

Thanks for the info.
I had a brief look around for contribute and get the impression it could give them access to the whole site unless access can be limited. Can it be configured in such a way that they only modify the one or two pages ?(and see the next point)
Also, in addition to the table information they need to update, we now understand they wish to have an extra page added which is specifically one they regularly update with news and special offers etc. An extra page can be added no problem, but do we make it different to the others in order to maintain design control and access etc?
Can all this be done with php?
thanks

Re: client wants to update one page regularly

I don't know anything about php so I won't go there.

With Dreamweaver you can build the site and convert to template. You can select the areas that you will allow them to edit by making the editable regions. The navigation, design aspects remain uneditable. So the editable regions are the areas that they could edit with Contribute.

The page they want as an extra would be a different template. Again you determine what areas are editable by them!

Re: client wants to update one page regularly

Thanks.
Having done some more research, I now realise that we are not looking at dynamic content, or any information on databases. I have found a site called flyspeck.net - which would seem to do the job of allowing simple editing of the clients site - does anyone have any experience of this?
Cheers.

Re: client wants to update one page regularly

No experience to flyspeck.net but we do use contribute at work to edit cetain pages of a website where the content changes regularly. As mentioned above a template can be designed in Dreamweaver that has 'editable' regions. You client can then access the page using Contribute and edit the page and republish when the changes have been made.

We have it installed at work and just use FTP to login to the site/page we want to edit.
