I Have A Suggestion

Ok this came to me from something RedSkwirrell said. In the WOTM competition, I think the winner should get a little logo to place on there website. For example...

On the home page of this really cool flash website he has some awards he has won. I think the winner of the WOTM competition should get a logo to place on there home page, and go down in the WOTM hall of fame. Then at the end of the year. We can take all 12 winners, and then vote for the best website of the year. I think this would be a cool NEW ideal for webforumz to consider doing.

Let me know what ever one else thinks.

I don't know? You would think they would show you a pic of the logo you get if you win. Or tell you that you get one. But I haven’t seen them take all of the 12 winners and do a WOTM finale.

Probably just pm the logo usage stuff to the winner?

Let me just stop everyone here in their tracks.

Whilst I would love this to be the case, it generally doesnt happen.

People who win, seldom linkback... let alone display a logo (we did try a while back).

Webforumz is a fast growing community representative of the design world and as such is respected by a great many people.

Sadly however, we get a lot of first time posters enter the site, then clear off never to be seen again unless they win and in that case maybe a passing thankyou.

I do not wish to go to the extreme of badgering people to link back here and display any sort of ensign/insignia or badge to say they won, but of course it would be nice if they wish and could be an optional option (erm... lol)

Maybe there are some entrants for this month (or indeed any month) who could give feedback on what they are/were prepared to display or say on their site should they/would they win.

With that valued feedback we could gauge the lie of the land so to speak.

I am currently unavailable for private work

If I won the site of the month, or site of the year, I would be happy to create a section of my site entitled "Accolades" with an image and a link to this site. As my site is a for web design, showing visitors something more firmly founded than testimonials would certainly appeal to me. I didn't enter the contest this month, but when I tie up a few loose ends content-wise on my site, I shall post it.

I think having an optional badge would be nice.

Think about it Rob. I would think most people would be proud to display a logo on the website saying they won the website on the month or year competition. In fact most people would want that logo on there home and or splash page. For example...

On the home page notice he has the awards he has won. They are proud. As you should be if you win something like WOTM or website of the year.

Now Rob do we do a website of the year (WOTY)? If not I think we should. Take all of the entries that won throughout the year. There would be 12 one for each month. Then enter then in a WOTY competition and the winner gets bragging rights or something. Plus a hell of a logo if any of the above text helped my case any. If you guys are short moderators, I could help get this part of the WOTM, and or WOTY, rolling so that everyone gets a logo and links back to you Rob. Plus it would be great for webforumz. Think about it Rob. PM me if you think it is worth giving it a try again.

I don't think Rob's questioning that, he's just saying he wants a linkback from the logo and I think he's be entitled to it.

Maybe make it part of the terms of entry to the competition, that winners should be entitled to display a small winners icon recognising the fact they won "WebForumz Best Website: September 2006" or "WebForumz Best Website of the Year: 2006", providing they also display it as a button-link to WebForumz. Anyone not wishing to provide the linkback relinquishes their entitlement to display the acknowledgement. Maybe have a WF list of genuine winners where non compliant winners are not recognised(?). A blacklist would defeat the purpose as it would provide more publicity.

I never got nor asked for anythin' for it.
It's just cuz I'm a nice skwirrell (well.., that and coz I think it's a useful site with something to say and offer and deserves to be recommended... Plus it has the web's cutest Skwirrell-In-Residence! ).
Where's the hassle?

I am just saying I think we should give this a shot again, and that if he needs help with it to let me know. I would be glad to make sure that everyone gets the logo. But I mean come on; placing the logo on the website should in my opinion, be optional. If the winner decides to put the logo on their website, that's great!! If not, that's ok too. It does not matter, with or not they put the logo on their website or not. We just need to make sure that should the winner choose to put the logo on their website that the logo can only be put on that particular winner’s website for that month. Also that the logo links back to webforumz. The problem with doing an html link would be they could easily remove the html link part of the logo picture. I think I could set something up in for you guys in flash.

I would make an xml or PHP file. Build or import a logo into flash. Then I would tell flash to link to webforumz, in a new blank window. Then I would put an IF statement in the Action Script that would tell to flash to check the URL and IF the URL is not in the xml file, then display this frame (Denied). Then on the frame denied, we can place a different logo, for example... we could place webforumz logo there instead of the WOTM or WOTY logo. As I would think you would want the two logo’s to be different. Or we could place some text there that says, don't still logo's that's not cool.

Come on Rob give me a chance. I think this would be a great NEW and fresh perk to winning WOTM or WOTY. I also would think the user would be proud to have that logo displayed on their website, because they won a best WOTM or WOTY. Give it shot!!

If you can cure it in Flash, I'm sure he would agree to it.

Why is it so important to have it link back if it's optional anyway? I'd personally link back, but if someone doesn't, it's no different than if they decided not to put the image up.

When I won a trophy for playing basketball, I didn't get it stripped from me when the next season started.

So people can just click the image and it open up webforumz in a new window. I am sure that this is important to Rob. Also you don't want the user to be able to claim they won and did not win. That is there the xml file came in. There should be two options. Logo or no logo. That's it. If you don't want to use the logo then don't but if you choose to use webforumz logo it should link to webforumz.
