search this forum does not appear to be working
Hi all,
I have been trying to search this forum for some information I am after. When I type my search query I receive the following message:
The search term you specified (css) is under the minimum word length (4) and therefore will not be found. Please make this term longer. If this term contains a wildcard, please make this term more specific.
The first word I use is indess CSS that is off course less than 4 characters long, but the second was is not.
Is there anyway I can get this search to work please?
Best Regards. John.

Re: search this forum does not appear to be working
I don't think so. Type 'CSS Related' maybe?

Re: search this forum does not appear to be working
Unfortunately, When using the vBulletin default search, this option limits the size of indexed words. The smaller this number is, the larger your search index, and conversely your database is going to be. Webforumz has this limit set to 4 which requires all words within your search to be up to 4 characters. I will talk with Rob about this and see wither he is willing to change that number, although, that might make the site even slower then it already is!

Re: search this forum does not appear to be working
Yeah I've been constantly annoyed when i want to search for 2/3 letter words mixed with longer words.
But I guess we could live with it until we get a dedi.

Re: search this forum does not appear to be working
I agree it would be useful that if the actual search was more than one word, each word could be less than 4 characters. CSS for a web designer forum is obviously going to be quite a popular search (along with PHP, ASP etc )

Re: search this forum does not appear to be working
I was looking for Dane's CMS thread before.
So the only word I knew that was in it was "CMS".
I think we could change it to 3 letters but I don't know how much it would affect the server.

Re: search this forum does not appear to be working
how about adding a google search box for this forum? I have seen them on other sites. You are given the option to either search google or the website you are visiting.
Regards. John.

Re: search this forum does not appear to be working
The server is slow enough *imagines 1 hamster running the wheel while the other 7 lay dead next to him*.
I don't think it would manage much more.

Re: search this forum does not appear to be working
Is there a way to allow words like CSS, CMS etc..these are kind of vital?

Did you read above?
Yes we can but it would produce a heavier load on the all ready buckling server.

Re: search this forum does not appear to be working
that probably would be the best idea Ed - allow singular words more than change the word limit.
Anyway up to Rob.

Re: search this forum does not appear to be working
Okay, I am currently working on fixing this issue. I have added certain words to the database that should allow you to search things like php, asp, css....etc. I am updating the database as we speak....will let you know if this works. If not, I will change the index limit to 3.
