IRC Chat

Hey guys,
I was jsut thinking... How come WebForumz doesn't have any kind of chatroom to do live chat? That would be neat to have on a forum such as this...

Re: IRC Chat

We've tried it before and nobody was using it due to the fact that the members of Webforumz are based all over the world.

Re: IRC Chat

Yeah that was part of the problem, no one could find it. It was not in that noticeable of a place. If we were to build it into the forum so that once you are logged you to Webforumz you can chat with any active member, it would be used a whole lot more....nice for staff meetings as well.

But that would be lots of work, but perhaps one day if I have nothing at all to do!

P.S. If that day comes, which it never will...I would make it in flash with PHP and would use some sort of AJAX or JS to have some cool effects, and make it easier to use and find.

Re: IRC Chat

Please bear in mind that having a busy, frequented chat kinda makes the forums obsolete. There will be less threads being made... less replies. Far less questions will be asked and answered in forums, meaning lots of traffic wont find answers to their questions. We can hardly archive all of chat - that would be ridiculous.

I think you can all see why a chat isnt nessesarily a good thing. Not saying it's bad either, but it *could* be harmful to the forums momentum.

Re: IRC Chat

You are absolutely right Rob, on a forums site that created forums, they have a chat and don't allow help in it. They have u go to forum and ask. so basically the chat is for general chat... HEHE.. but u are right about that it can cause the forums to not be active anymore. That's why you could submit rules to teh chat.> TEehehehe

Re: IRC Chat

Then you'd have to find people to moderate that. Being a moderator for a forum alone is a heavy job ... I can just imagine a chat room
