Accessibility - a stand alone section?
What about having Accessibility as a separate section in your forum? I seem to spend my life looking for ways to solve accessibility problems in my web pages. I appreciate that some issues are covered in the CSS part of the forum.
W3C is okay as a resource but can be confusing and difficult to understand for the non technical bods like myself - see Becta's useful Website Accessibility Guide April 05 - I came across it today. It is full of plain speaking guidelines with easy problem solving hints. Like a free downloadable 'Colour Contrast Analyser' - useful for deciding on colours to be used in your stylesheets. http://ferl.becta.org.uk/display.cfm?resID=9136 Perhaps users with specific needs could contribute to this section so that webdesigners/developers would have more of an idea about say dyslexia, blindness etc. etc |

While I like the idea of providing more accessibility information on Webforumz, I'm not sure if we should be doing that as a new Forum. Most people don't ask for specific accessibility information and once you've covered the basic of accessibility, there isn't much more you can do. Sure, people make careers out of accessibility and it can be a fairly complicated topic, but in terms of making a page accessible, there isn't too much difficulty involved.
As you've already pointed out, there is also a great deal of crossover with CSS. I think there would also be crossover with other aspects of the Forum. Seeing as most of this information would be static and that people wouldn't really need feedback on their own websites within a specific Accessibility forum (they could go to Web Site Critique for that) I think that we would be better of with articles focused on Accessibility with clear do's and do not's. It's probably also worth mentioning that we've only ever once had someone come onto Webforumz and address accessibility needs with regards to themselves. |

Re: Accessibility - a stand alone section?
I agree that a web accessibility forum is missing here.
If that comes, I will definetely support it. |

Re: Accessibility - a stand alone section?
It may be worthwhile having a combined accessibility / usability forum.
I would like to see some more feedback in here firstly... the last thing we need is a ghost-town forum.
