Speed Test

A client of mine asked, how do i know how fast/slow my connection is?

Since he's having problem on loading a page I gave of him. It's made with a flash site and he said, it took ages on his part to load the link.I believe it's dependent on the type of connection you have over the net isn't it?

That made me think to search an online internet connection speed test. And this is what I found and tried myself.

However, somebody told me that these type of online connection test doesn't need to be accurate nor accurate at all. Is that true?

Re: Speed Test

Connections can suffer from ALOT of problems, from half open connection problems to packet loss.

The ping seems pretty good on that considering it's speed, a good ratio between up and down is great (better than my ration anyway .... they make you pay more to get a better up speed)

Don't need to be accurate? or aren't accurate?

And no they're not 100% accurate, because if your internet isn't set up correctly, or theres a fault on the line, or any number of possible problems, that hinders there accuracy.

But they're a good rough guideline... if you're paying for 20mb broadband and it says you're getting 800kb downstream and 80kb up stream, you know somethings not right.

Also internet speed depends on location, distance from exchange, exchange equipment, your equipment, your set up, and just about every variable you can think of, including time of day, temperature and weather...
