Hey Bocaj,

Seems like salted's got some good advice there - if you can hang about I'll try and post some advice tommorow (right now the pink bunnies are starting to appear again, so I think I'm calling it a night )

Re: aaah help ]: corrupt partition

the first thing is to run some scans for sypware, adware and viruses

the second thing i would do is check to see if the pc is detecting the hard drive ( this can be done in either bios or Computer Management - i would check both), if it is detected, then my next port of call would be to check my cables inside the pc, you can do this by connecting it up to a new cable or testing it with the existing cables. you could also try a chkdsk

if the bios or Computer Management is not detecting it, i would connect my hard drive to another pc and try to recover the files onto disk or another hard drive, ( you would probebly be better off asking your local computer dealer to do that ). then i would try to format the hard drive ( or just delete the partition ), if successful, put everything back in it.

if its not successful, or you cant even do that, its a new hard drive i am afraid

also, check this out if you really dont want to shell out for a new hard drive http://www.ptdd.com/ ( if you have vista, you will have to hunt for one, since i dont know if you are using ntfc or fat32 )

p.s - if you are wondering why i am below the above post, i accidently deleted it whilst i was editing rofl

Re: aaah help ]: corrupt partition

It's a partition in my second internal drive, i've got two internal hard drives with 5 partitions, 3 on the first two on the second.

It's only one partition that's causing me problems =/

Someone reccomended i use this to try and recover as much data as possible =/

Re: aaah help ]: corrupt partition

i am afreaid i have never had to use a programme like that before, you are probably better off contacting the site owners, explaining the problem and askng which you should be using

once you have recovered all the info, you can ust delete the partition, unless it fixes the table that is corrupt

You see they have two products for that too ]:

And then other things for individual applications like excel, and access, and them more and more...

It baffles my little head.

I've realised everything is backed up par the most important thing i've lost ]:

That seriously spun me out for a moment there!

From the run command, type compmgmt.msc and hit enter. Select Disk Management from the left hand navigation, then click Action > Refresh (and then Action > Rescan Disks).

This should give you all the HDD's and partitions on your system. Right click the problem one and choose Properties, then click the Tools tab and click Check Now... beneath Error Checking.

This might take a while, so see what Windows ends up with and post the results back here.

What is most likely the case is your MBR table is corrupt, but not the data on it.

If this is the problem, it might just be a case of using Window's native fdisk or a tool I just found called FixMBR (freeware). The fact this disk is not your boot disk means things *should* be a tad easier

Re: aaah help ]: corrupt partition

I saw that before but didn't know wether i should click it

(i went to my computer > Right click drive > properties > Tools)

But i know from past experience me just clicking things when i don't really know what they're doing hasn't got me very far ]:

Thanks [:

I'm starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel *runs away*

EDIT:

It refuses to do anything, when i click 'start' it just closes the window, i've tried other drives and it works fine. But the drive in question it refuses to do anything =/

ALSO the file system is showing up as 'raw'

Re: aaah help ]: corrupt partition

I've tried something called 'easy recovery professional' by ontrack, it's recovered the majority if not all of my data, however it's mashed it together and i've got media content that didn't exist prior and i can't actually work out what kind of files they are (i'm assuming they're corrup anyway, notepad+ is just returning null).

Some of the html documents have repeated code, bits of code from other files and on even has the entire jquery code about 4 times over with little bits mashed in between.

Anyone got any pointers or helpers?

I've made a backup of the corrupt data in the raw format, but i'm not going to reformat until i've recovered as much as possible.

Worst come worst, i've actually managed to find the .psd files on my pc, so always just start from scratch (graphics are always my main concern, you can never reproduce something the same again).

Re: aaah help ]: corrupt partition

When you say *it* refuses to do anything, which tool are you talking about?

With fdisk, it's from the command line so there's no start button

Re: aaah help ]: corrupt partition

Error checking > check now > shows a box with two checkboxes and a button that says start, when i click start it just closes the box, nothing else.

That fix mbr application quickly opens and shuts the command prompt, and seems to do nothing else.

I think i'm most probably not doing it right (lol) [:

Re: aaah help ]: corrupt partition

after trying so many different things and pieces of software reccomended on forums etc.

I used GetDataBack by runtime, and it's done the trick (wasn't half slow mind) but it seems to have recovered everything, with the correct file names, extensions EVERYTHING.

So kudos to them, just wanted to add some closure to this thread.
