Dreamweaver

Quick question, I am new to dreamweaver.

When I am downloading files from a remote site to my computer, is it better to use the "get" command and get the entire site or click on the "connect to remote host" button?

Re: Dreamweaver

It makes no difference which one you use, they do the same thing.

If you want to download individual files from the remote host in Dreamweaver, just highlight as many or as little as you like. When you control click and select get you will be asked 'do you want the dependent files?' if you click no you will just get the html files, if you click yes you will get any images etc associated with the html files that you selected.

Re: Dreamweaver

Sorry, just read your question again (what I said still applies). You need to connect to the remote host first anyway, you would have to do this to make the remote files visible in the window in the first place.

Negative. Connect to the remote host will just connect you to the FTP server. This allows you to view and manipulate the files on the server, but will not download them to your local machine.

Get, on the other hand, will download the selected files from the site onto your local machine.

Thanks for putting it in easier to understand terms. This is what I was getting at in a round about way. I use Dreamweaver everyday and just know what the buttons do, i'm on auto pilot at work - not the greatest at explaining things!
