Firefox being slow

the past couple of days my firefox browser has been really slow changing between tabs loading up pages and displaying letters when typed. They appear like a minute after typing them out.

My other broswers are fine and operating at normal speed and I checked my CPU usage and stuff in the task manager and thats all fine.

Can anybody help me get it back to normal?

Re: Firefox being slow

If its playing up like this and the other browswers are working fine, just download the latest version of firefox again, replace the one you currently have.

Re: Firefox being slow

I did and still no joy. I have currently switched to Opera till I can find out how to fix it.

I have noticed that when firefox is running it isnt in the tray at the bottom of the screen where other applications are. I assume that this probably have something to do with it.

Re: Firefox being slow

Glad to hear i'm not the only one. Mine kept crashing too and after reporting it 30-40 times I figured to go to Opera.

Opera is actually really cool I quite like it. Looks better than FF in my opinion too.

Re: Firefox being slow

Have you tried clearing all private data and downloads?

Also run CCleaner to wipe any old internet files (cache).

Plus check this thread for some debugging techniques.

Last resort, uninstall FF and remove ALL your profile folders (on Windows, this is C:\Documents and Settings\user\Application Data\Mozilla).

You will lose everything to do with FF, so backup your bookmarks and note down your add-ons.

This really can solve a lot of issues, since a standard re-install will not remove the profile folder.

Re: Firefox being slow

I just re-installed and all seems fine, although I noticed that some of my add ons have not been reinstalled, maybe a corrupt installation?

Also, I have switched off auto yslow which has helped alot.

Re: Firefox being slow

Right, im not sure how many of you have downloaded the new AVG 8 (free version) but when i run the scan, i get about 20 warnings, all to do with FF, im still trying to work out what it means, so maybe thats the problem.
