Ram

After just discovering that i only had 1 GB on my laptop, combined with the fact that i have got vista , it seems i need a RAM upgrade lol.

Just 1 question, i have 2 DDR2 slots, is it possible to have a 2GB in on and a 1GB in the other, or do both of them have to be the same??

Thanks people

Craig

Re: Ram

Yep, but it's recommended that they're at least the same frequency and brand.

EDIT: Having said that, as much as I like to stick with identical sticks, it seems having the same clockspeed/brand is not an issue at all (at least with most modern mobos).

Found these on a forum post

while its nice to have same brand/speed/etc, its not necessary. it all works together and what not in the end

the RAM will only go as fast as your slowest RAM chip. If you have 2700 RAM and 2100 RAM, it will run at 2100 speed, both chips.

Re: Ram

so as long as they are from the same manufacturer etc, it would not matter if they were different capacities?

Re: Ram

I'm going just fine on 1GB personally. Hard to belive but I run FTP, Dw, Ps, MSN, Firefox, Outlook, IE7 & IE6 when designing and with very very little slowdown.

Re: Ram

i just have to run FF and it slows down :@

I already found that site through google, thanks salted mate

it says 4GB is only benaficial for 64bit though, 3-3.5GB is the best you can have for the 32bit vista, you can have 4GB but it wont make any difference if you get what i mean
