Personal Window Firewall?

Hai guys..
I am just wondering what application that you are using for your firewall/anti virus?

I have used AVG Internet Security, but I am planning to change them soon. Do you guys have any better application?

I heard about Avira AntiVir Premium Security Suite?

Re: Personal Window Firewall?

For my Firewall I use the standard one from Vista (I'm not very paranoid).

I use Avira Antivir for virus protection. The PersonalEdition Classic version which is free. You get a bit of advertising (about once every 2-3 days they show a window asking if you want to upgrade to a pro version) and the protection level has been satisfactory....

Re: Personal Window Firewall?

Comodo is very good, considering it's completely free! It's not perfect, but it's heavily customisable, lightweight and easy to use.

I'm actually using Norton Internet Security at the moment, only because it was bundled with a PC my sister bought. As soon as it expires though, BYE BYE NORTON

Re: Personal Window Firewall?

I use Spybot Search and Destroy.
Can recommended by my computer tech repairman! Seems to have continually done the job on my computer as well as my daughters. And she's a virus, spyware magnet!

Re: Personal Window Firewall?

for my firewall i use a wireless router, ( nothing better ) and for spyware/adware etc, i use panda Internet security. windows defender and spybot search and destroy. ( always best to have a few, that way what one misses there is a better chance of it being picked up by the others. )

p.s, Norton security is the worst you could ever use, its NOT secure and it can crash your computer when receiving updates,

example

my father was updating his Norton and it deleted important dll files causing his computer to crash and symontec refused to believe it was anything to do with them, he ended up paying £350.00 to recover what was left of his files and re-installing windows, also getting a proper security suite.

i have since heard from 3 different friends that this has also happened them.

internet security is not for the paranoid, its for all those that know the true risks to your computer and information - if you don't mind sharing EVERYTHING on your computer, just stick to all the standard stuff that comes with your computer.

most of you here are proper website programmers ( not just html users ) and as such, you know how easy it is to create a script to do almost anything you want,
just think...
if its easy for you to create a program that can do exactly what you want, how easy do you think it is for someone who knows the latest hacking tricks to use them on you

most of us here study website design and have got very good at it, if we were hackers, we would be at the top of our game, what would you do with skills like that ?

Re: Personal Window Firewall?

Ok, I have decided to use ZoneAlarm, thanks to Marc and Jacob!

Is it ok if we installed/use 2 or more antivirus in a PC? Like AVG and Avira or ZoneAlarm?
Is it advisable?

Re: Personal Window Firewall?

You guys should know that some virus software corrupts your computer! Things like Symantec, CA, and AVG are the worst! I strongly suggest using AVIRA, the best Anti-virus ever. Feel free to disagree, though...

That's because those problems are internal. Your hard drive gets fragmented when you use those anti virus programs. And that leads to a slow computer!

Re: Personal Window Firewall?

Every antivirus slows down your pc. Especially my experience with Norton!
It all depends how well you maintain your pc (registry, defragmenting hdd, etc...)

Yahoo Answer:
Quote:
When your antivirus performs a scan. It produces a log. This log can be up to 100 megabytes of information each. The registry holds all this info. The addition of the info is not the major problem. Its that the information is placed in many places in your registry. This causes fragmentation of files. Your computer's operating system must search through the massive files in the registry constantly. If the registry is error-filled, fragmented, or bloated with unnecessary and duplicate files, you will have major slowdown. Organize and keep it maintained, the problem will most likely be solved. You can scan to see the condition of your registry and see what resources you can unlock resources.

Re: Personal Window Firewall?

Yes, but most people (like my friends) have no idea how to do it. They don't even know ow to clear the cache! It's much to complicated for the average PC user. That's why using a good anti virus program, that doesn't even do that crap in the first place, is highly recommended. And like I said, AVIRA is the best in my opinion since it does not corrupt your computer...
