Scorpion Game

Hey everyone, check out this new game I am making:

UP = accelerate
LEFT = turn left
RIGHT = turn right
SHIFT = grab with claws
SPACE = sting


I put a little AI mouse in there to run around. If you touch him, he will run faster. So grab him with the claws before he escapes and sting him to death.

I got fed up i couldnt catch it

Thanks. Yeah, I am actually a TA for my game design class in college. I was so good at flash to begin with, that the teacher just said that I wouldn't learn anything new in flash so I should just become a tutor. So now I just walk around the classroom and help people with flash, I get paid, and I still get class credits. It's pretty awesome.

well the mouse isn't really developed enough yet, but in this beta version, you need to grab him with the claws, and press space to sting him until his health goes down. But if the scorpion's head touches the mouse, the mouse gets scared and his velocity increases to the velocity of the scorpion, which makes it hard to grab again.

Scorpion can't sting while moving, and you only know the health of hte mouse when you are grabbing him.

Eventually, the game will consist of a way bigger playfield, hundreds of different desert creatures, each with a complex AI. Health and stats and ways to increase them for the scorpion. And later in the game, there will be a human neighborhood with humans outside and you'll be able to sting them! Maybe even go into the houses!

At this point in the game, I just wanted to display the basic movement of the scorpion and the way the ground pans across the screen, which I think is pretty revolutionary for a flash game. I know that panning of the background has been done before, but not in this complexity where it is able to pan on all 4 sides and still allow the player to move freely within the center.

Apparently 90% of what you learn is from what you teach! So it's a pretty good way i think.
Plus you get to feel superior to the flash noobs

yeah its really fun, i think i am going to do it next quarter too even when i am not in the class anymore - its a good way to make money. i was surprised at how no one in the class had any experience in flash except me.

hey, pretty funny.. Nice and straight forward.. don't make it too complex though..

first visit it worked eg i could move the scorpion.

second and subsequent visits I saw the mouse but couldn't move the scorpion.

One error. If you grap the mouse and then walk it out of the area. It then will go on and on

Does the mouse ever die?

yes, the problem with bringing the mouse out of the game field is easy to fix.. in the next version, the scorpion won't be able to to go past the game field.

right now, the mouse doesn't die but in the next version, it will. In the next version, there will probably be a bunch of mice or maybe even some or or

rats
kangaroos
centipedes
spiders
rabbits
prairie dogs
coyote
ants

you take rabbits out of that list or you are banned!
