What do you think of Windows Vista

My mum has just bought a new laptop and she knows absolutely nothing about computers and just about knows how to turn it on and log in.

On there, is Windows Vista preloaded and she asked me if i could set up her wireless connection to my dad's router.

I said I would have a look but I found there was no logical place to find anything unlike previous versions of Windows.

It took me ages to find the Network Connection settings and even IE.

What does everyone else think of Vista.....my first opinions are I DON't LIKE IT

Re: What do you think of Windows Vista

One of my old college lecturers referred to the default menu on Windows XP as "Fisher Price" becuase it is just too simple and 'Eye Candy' but Vista is even worse.

I think they have done a worse job making things much more difficult to find and adding useless, resource hogging, desktop cluttering items such as the clock and that other useless thing I don't even know what's for.

How MS decided to do vista.

How can we make windows better in vista?

Takes up loads of memory....heheheh..i bet that's right and I heard it now comes on a dvd becuase it's packed with so many useless features that iot won't fit on a standard cd anymore.....and what's this i heard it now takes a couple of gig install instead of about half a gig of hdd space?

Re: What do you think of Windows Vista

OK, WATCH OUT, Vista lover comin through!!!

I've been running Vista Business for a couple months now on my notebook and have come to love it. Of course it took a while until I could say this but once I had learned how to use it, I found Vista just as nice to use as XP. A couple of improvements on XP:
- the new explorer is really nice and very much more user-friendly. Also the file copy/move functions are a lot nicer.
- I know that a lot of the 'new' look was "copied" from Mac, but, hey, it still looks good.
- 3D flip RockZZZ. I'll admit it's totally useless, but you can always impress your friends with it
- Accessing other computers in a local network is a lot easier and doesn't take so flippin long as it did with XP.

I agree, that is really annoying, BUT IT CAN BE DISABLED!

Download TweakUI for Vista and you can kill all the extra crapp and Vista becomes a lean, mean, sexy, shiny OS

Re: What do you think of Windows Vista

What i found really annoying was trying to shut down when you are on the login screen.

What a stupid place to put the options to shut down, restart etc....right at the bottom of the right hand side of the screen......not obvious at all

he? Have you actually used Windows before? When you say stuff like that it makes my wonder....

a) right-click the start menu --> Properties --> Start Menu --> Customize and you can configure exactly what you want to see in your start menu.
b) what's wrong with keyboard shortcuts? that's why computers have keyboards, so you don't have to use the mouse the whole time....

Re: What do you think of Windows Vista

I always use the shortcuts.
Just annoyed me as I spent ages trying to find the run button before I thought to use the keyboard shortcut.
