Re: Net firms quizzed on speed limits
£24.99 a month - 2mb broadband - Do I get what I pay for... NO! Downloads at 256kb (if I am lucky) Uploads at 37.4kb (once again if I am lucky).
Just checked aols site and I am paying £24.99 for my broadband at 2mb BUT the lowest package I can see is 8mb at £14.99... Think I need to ring up aol india and ask them what they are playing at!

Re: Net firms quizzed on speed limits
i believe we pay for up to 2mb, that was what we were told we were upgraded to for free because of price changes, however in the account section of their site tiscali says our package is 512kb/s. we pay £20 per month, however that includes local and national calls or something allong those lines. the max download rate i ever get is about 80kb/s (as in downloading a file). apparently we are a long way from the exchange on an old type of line or some rubbish like that.

About £28 with VAT.
Paying for 8mb but always get < 2mb due to my area. I do have static IPs however and my upload speed is quite satisfactory.

Re: Net firms quizzed on speed limits
yeah, it's that lovely "up to" phrase that seems to get them out of providing a decent service

I am on Virgin Media 20MB (cable) service which costs me £29 for first3 months then £35 after. my upload speed is around 700mb and my download speed is between 1.5mb - 2.5mb a sec. I can usually download a full 700mb film in around, 10 mins.
It may sound good enough to you but 20MB sounds better??? wheres that?? Vistar |

Re: Net firms quizzed on speed limits
you have to admit its good business though, technically they are never letting us down, its our assumption that lets us down. we assume that because its up to a certain speed then we will get something close, technically they can give us whatever speed they want, funny how its never over though!!

what does 20mb mean???
i've not seen anything resembling that anywhere.. it loads the same as anyother mb service straight away(and i wont need 20mb line to load a page, so its not that bit of service) my downloads are 2mb so thats not the 20mb i was offered.... virgin is living up to their name in this industry... and yet they say they never lose speed as they use optic cables which is clearly porkies as everytime i check my speed its ALWAYS different. AND....LOL... they say they can handle 50mb on their lines but they are not increasing their 20mb limits for marketing purposes. Vistar |
