When I moved to the US, I was allowed to drive on my British license for 1 year (I think it was 1 year anyway, maybe less actually), then I had to hand in my British license and take the US test. When I moved back to England 4 years later, luckily I was able to just reapply for my British license without having to take another test. I think it's pretty much the same in most countries, so I'm guessing you will have to take the test in Canada at some point. Although I know of people in England who have been driving on a foreign license for several years even though they shouldn't do it for more than one year - they are still able to get insurance for some reason, but I'm sure if they actually tried to make a claim they would come unstuck!

Oh and well done Craca for a good pass!

I checked (well... a cousin did actually) with SGI, and if I send in a report stating that I was a good boy in traffic here, my licence could be transferred.. But I'll have to check all that myself to make sure..

Re: Theory!

You might be lucky then cause it sucks having to take another test when you've already passed one!

Re: Theory!

Well done mate. Now for the real driving test!!!

I'd hate having to retake my tests again - I failed twice anyway first time round for STUPID things...I overtook a row of what I thought were parked cars...actually waiting at a red light...and second time...I was day dreaming at a traffic light thinking go green, go green...and it was green lol.

I think now I've picked up driving habits I'd struggle to pass again!

Re: Theory!

The theory test.. When I did my test it was just the driving test and you had to answer a few questions on the Highway Code at the end

Re: Theory!

Actually back when I took my UK test I also just had a few questions at the end rather than the separate theory test. The theory test as it is now came in in 1996.

Re: Theory!

about '95 I think.
I also passed before they bought it in, which makes me feel old, but happy as all I had to do was read a number plate and answer three questions about road signs !
