How do YOU navigate the forums?

In an effort to make our next version of this site more useful, usable and user friendly I would love to discuss how you personally use the forums in terms of getting around it.

I personally use the forum list on the homepage very little and favour the 'get new posts' functionality. I occasionally click into forums from the homepage.

Re: How do YOU navigate the forums?

I use:
- "Get new posts" to erm, get new posts...
- "Control Panel" to see threads I'm subscribed to (replied to)

I hardly ever use anything else, other than sometimes when I check one or 2 specific forums for posts.

Re: How do YOU navigate the forums?

I personally either look down the main page at post times or use "Get new posts".

If you have it selected in your USERCP to subscribe to threads, you automatically do. If you are subscribed to threads, you get the emails saying someone has replied (instantly on reply / daily /weekly etc) or you can select no emails / do not subscribe.

Yep. 'twas me. I don't go through the list unless I really REALLY want to discuss something...

Re: How do YOU navigate the forums?

I always "get new posts". Once I've read all the posts I'm interested in or can help in I "mark forums read".
The only time I use the homepage is to get to the Critique Forum (when I've decided to set an hour of time aside) or if I'm looking for something in particular that I need to revisit.
Oh I also use the homepage to see who's online occasionally.

Re: How do YOU navigate the forums?

I click New Posts as well. Then, like Lchad, I do a Mark Forums Read when I've read or replied to the threads I'm interested in.

Re: How do YOU navigate the forums?

Yeah, same as others really, always Get New Posts, not often through homepage unless wanting to browse through a specific sub-forum, or to see who's online.

Re: How do YOU navigate the forums?

Alright, perhaps I am a little different. I don't use the get new posts link, perhaps because I know there will be more then I can handle to reply to.

I just go to the forums home page, click within the forum that I see new posts are in...via the icon, and reply as necessary. Keep in mind, anymore I only have time to talk in 8 forums, so my forum work load is rather small.

So, just in case I was not clear...I have screen shots. So I look at the icon, I notice it is bright, which means I have unread posts. (Screen Shot 1) I simply click within that area and look at individual threads. (Screen Shot 2)

Re: How do YOU navigate the forums?

I use get new posts, and occasionally the forum list but to be honest there too many forums so, I don't ever actually look through threads forum by forum. Only problem with get new posts is that as soon as you have read one it disappears off the list. Sometimes I'd quite like to go back to a post later to reply, for whatever reason (usually time constraints), but I sometimes lose posts and haven't really got the time to trundle through all of the forums.

Pete.
