I don't mind buying good quality fonts but I usually won't pay more than $20-40. I did buy a complete package recently of over 200 fonts for around $200. But honestly the funnest ones are the free ones.
I am inclined to agree, I won't pay £500 for a single photo and I won't pay it for a font but most fonts are around the 20-100 dollar mark which I don't mind paying, to be honest and you do have it forever (as long as you don't lose it-imagine losing and $650 font!). I get a bit frustrated with the free font sites (urbanfonts.com being the exception). You have a to trawl through all of those fonts, gives me shudders just thinking about it. I prefer it when someone refers me to a good free font, so then I don't actually have to find it myself.

Re: Free fonts?

I agree... when someone puts up something in the critique forum and the font looks nice, I'll usually ask if it's free and where it came from. Those are the easiest ways of doing it. I've found some sweet ones that are really "current" that way.

Re: Free fonts?

And also, you bought a font pack for $200 you said. Well, veer have a few font-packs for sale, in one I noticed you get about 280 fonts for the measly sum of $6000. That's just ridiculous! I liek the fonts and there are all different ones but there is simply no way you would pay it, you'd have to be sure of every single font (which you wouldn't be) if you were going to even think of spending that much (which you wouldn't).

I'm all for buying great fonts but some people take it too far.

$6000? Man!!!!!!!!! That's insane. Maybe printing companies are buying that? Ad agencies? I have no idea.

Re: Free fonts?

You don't get resale rights as far as I'm aware. I suppose if your were a biggish company who spends a lot of money on fonts anyway, it would make sense. Apparently you save about 50% or something but still, it's pricey.

Re: Free fonts?

i guess those prices would be reasonable if no one else could legally use the font

Re: Free fonts?

Anyone can buy it from the foundry or from the maker, but you can't sell it is what I meant. These are not exclusive, custom fonts. They are seriously pricey.

Re: Free fonts?

Yeah, every time. I do it in emails too. I don't like sigs really, never have done. They're good for sticking links in but not for signing off with.
