Safari 3 Public Beta
Hi,
I have noticed there is a public beta release of Safari 3 which is compatible for both Mac and Windows. Many of my clients use Macs but I only have a PC so I am currently testing this browser for speed and usability and cross browsers compatibility. You can download the browser from this url: http://www.apple.com/safari/ The website cliams the browser is 2 times faster than IE and 1.6 times faster than Firefox when loading pages. Let me know what results go get. As far as I can see the loading is the same for all broswers. regards p shah - www.dcpweb.co.uk |

Re: Safari 3 Public Beta
Yea safari's been available on the PC for quite a while now.
Its full of security holes at the moment which has led to the argument... Macs claim they are WAY more secure than PC's but...since Safari has been released on windows its gopt loads of security holes. Whcih means its not actually that mac's security is better, its that the programs aren't actually as complex as windows ones and that is why it seems there is no security threat... It has been proven that these security holes are because of the apple development, rather than the widnows OS. Although fair play as soon as the huge security hole was found it was patched up within 3 hours... Mike |

Re: Safari 3 Public Beta
They took webkit from OS X and ported it to Windows of course it will have some issues, also keep in mind windows API's are a lot different that the stuff apple provides for its developers etc. Safari on windows is and will be buggy in beta, as for OS X it is more secure than windows but this is an age old argument. Either way its a step in the right direction for everyone. Choice is good. I however would wait for a full point release on Safari Win. They have a few things to iron out I bet.

Stick with Opera - fast, easy to use and doesnt crash like Firefox always seems to.

Re: Safari 3 Public Beta
Wasn't that bad, if your machine is buggy then you'll have problems. I keep my PC clean and checked and I never had any probs with Safari Win. I'm a flocker myself but I like all standards compliant browsers, the development mentality means they tend to listen to users. Each new release often brings even more useful features thanks to community feedback. It's the way forward.

Re: Safari 3 Public Beta
Unfortunatly I am only happy with firefox 2.0 at dev time, I have yet to check safari, but if they say IE7 is big, then... Well FireFox is all the way for big time development.
