Or do you want to keep a folder private/hidden on a site?

If you're trying to hide a shared folder in a windows network then all you have to do is put a '$' in the share name For example, share a folder called 'movies' as 'movies$' and other people who view the shared folders on your computer won't see it. To access it you would have to enter '\\yourcomputername\movies$' in the address bar of an explorer.

That is what is called clean url's. The server has to be set up for that. And that is also an option in CMS systems such as Textpattern. you can do clean urls or messy urls i.e. foo/foo/ vs foo.php?id=foo
