If I were to be a little (though not much) more prosaic then I would say happiness is to strive for something you value, something of worth to you. A thing whose value cannot be counted in pounds, dollars or yen but that can only be valued by you and those who see your passion for it. You stop one day and you see that you are doing something decent and worthwhile. In that moment you are happy. No guilt, no ignorance just full realisation that things aren't so good perhaps but you are trying to do something about that. There is no ignorant bliss, no selfishness. It is mad, I know, to acknowledge a wrong yet find happiness in the fact that you are working against it, by my logic, if there were no evils in the world then there would be less happiness but, nontheless, that is happiness to me.

On the subject of happiness, here is a nice quote by Immanuel Herman Fichte. "If we cannot live so as to be happy, let us least live as to deserve it."
