Cool Flash (Ryan)

Ryan I thought you might enjoy this article. A couple other names are coming to mind here, let's see...Karinne, Linda, Ryan, Diego, Pete...ummm, I think that covers it.

Re: Flash (Ryan)

Interesting article...I don't know alot about flash except it either works well with a site or I 'skip intro'. It makes absoulute sense that it was and should be part of complete website. The foundation is HTML, the framework CSS and the interior decoration is the Flash. someday I will have those skill....some day.

Re: Flash (Ryan)

I agree, but that Flash example of the reflections is a little weak. I'd do it with PHP and you wouldn't get that annoying jump that takes place when the JavaScript kicks in.

Thanks Jacob.. that was interesting. I'm going to give that tutorial a try.
I actually like how they set up the photo to use in the shopping cart. Hmmm..
Thanks!! That's bookmarked for a rainy day!

Re: Flash (Ryan)

Interesting article and you bringing this topic up coincides nicely with my decision to start integrating bits of flash. FIrstly I'm sick and tired of the poor rendering of text. So flash replacement will be something I make a lot of use of in future for headings and the like. And some nice little animations will be making their way into my sites from now on, although I might have to get someone else to do them. I've just got to grips with JS and the DOM and I'm not far from finishing my first Ruby app but I don't know if I can quite handle the terror that is Actionscript quite yet.

It is all about picking the correct use of flash, for example I'm looking at image galleries and media players in particular as well as a few other bits.

But you have a convert. I never thought I'd say it but I see flash as a permanent and regular fixture in my sites from now on.

Pete.

Re: Flash (Ryan)

OH MY GOSH!! Well it took you long enough...lol. But no really, flash is a nice addition to most sites. But if you are planning on using media players and such, flash is totally the way to go. Flash has an incredible compression rate, in fact that is why Adobe bought Macromedia!
