Do you like where you work

I just saw a post on another forum. It appears that rackspace has come in the top 50 of UK companies as a good place to work. You can read about it at this link.

I don't know if we should all be jealous now, that we work somewhere we hate, or apply for jobs at Rackspace?

Do you know what the criteria are for judging them as good places to work? I see MacDonald's restaurants are also in the top 50, so personally I think I'll stay where I am

Re: Do you like where you work

When I was working, there were some jobs I just loved, most however were not fun. Being elderly and retired, I love my job now. A few days telcom consulting, a few days at my sister's store and the rest of the time spending my time applying pets to feline bodies.

That's why I have a home office. My sis knows when the door is closed....unless the house is burning down...do not enter. You have got to set up a seperate space and buckle down. Now you, Jacob, spend so much time in the Webforumz corner, you can't get anything done anyway...so why bother?!

Re: Do you like where you work

A lot of the fun of work is getting on with other people and having a great time. I guess MacDonalds could fall into that category, but there could be a lot of stress when the french fries are not ready to serve.

In a hosting company I expect there are times when everything is going smoothly, and the staff can sit around drinking coffee and telling jokes. Then a server goes down and all hell breaks loose - but I guess that can be fun as well?

Working for someone else is never fun. And freelancing is scary fun cause you never know what will happen.

Well somehow I still manage to finish my clients website and get paid, and EAT sometimes...hehe. But I agree 98% of my time is spent either on Webforumz or sleeping...hehe.

Re: Do you like where you work

I really enjoy working where I work at the moment, I do wish I was doing some webdesigning at work as their intranet is an abomination and really does need some work doing to it. But I enjoy doing what I do, the people are great, the managers are great, everything is calm and chilled out.

For me it's not so much that working for someone else is never fun (I make my own fun wherever I go ), but what I resent about working for someone else is having to be there for specific set hours every day, and having to ask permission to have time off, and being told what to do, and...yeah, you're right, it's not that much fun!

There's nothing better than laying in bed with a computer on my lap... and getting paid for it!

Re: Do you like where you work

Aw Ryan! Why did you have to go and say that?! I'm trying so hard to not make smutty or flirty comments in response to everything, and then you just set one up like that! But no...don't say it Vanessa...resist the urge...

of course all the workers there are happy, they are constantly on a caffine hit.

I actually got to go to the awards this year, all tuxedoed up and champers on tap, felt well posh

Ah, so you did it deliberately, it's not just that I've got a warped mind then! That's a relief.
