Isn't it SOOOOO annoying when...

You give someone your email address (a personal person I mean rather than a business) because they need to email you a particular thing, and they then assume this means they can add you to their contact list and forward on every piece of crap chain letters, urban legends, hoax virus warnings, etc etc that comes their way!!! Why for instance are seemingly intelligent people so gullible as to believe that if they forward an email on to 10 people within five minutes of opening it, then something amazing will happen on their computer screen?

It just makes me so....grrrrr

I usually try the kind approach first - whenever I receive any kind of emailed warning (be it about a virus, or something terrible that happened in a parking lot to someone's best friend's cousin's secretary), I always look it up on www.snopes.com (and usually find it), I then email them the relevant link, showing them that it is a hoax, and suggesting that in future they may like to check on Snopes themselves if something is true before forwarding it on. Do I ever get any thanks for my efforts? Not a sausage. Just more crap a few days later!

iv found that the kind aproach doesnt work so i tend to send them every bit of runbish they send me back with a little extra at the bottom calling them all the names under the sun then i block all emails from that person

Hahaha....the kind approach. Hmmmm, I have 3 sisters and one of those sisters who shall remain nameless emails me this kind of stuff all of the time. I have found a solution instead of blocking my dear sister I built a forwarder. This forwarder/auto-reply script detects the subject of the message. If the subject has FWD in it, then it sends an auto-response 30 times to the from email address that says..."I hate spam".

Since then she has called me asking what this was. I calmly explained that I don't like spam and that I get enough email daily from message boards I don't want any SPAM! This will work great until she figures out how to remove those FWD marks in the subject line...lol. Which knowing her that will never happen...lol.

I dont mind some of the forward emails but i allways ask my new friend do they want them or NOT! i do respect every ones choice.

I get a few a week from one person and I don't mind them. They're always funny videos or pictures. Thankfully I don't get any of those "Send this email to 10 people you know in 5 minutes and you'll find the love of your life tomorrow."

Yeah, I don't mind the occasional genuinely funny or interesting thing, I just get annoyed by how easily some people seem to believe every story that arrives by email, and then forward it on to everybody they know as if they are providing some great service.
