Smile Mac Computer

So I am going to be buying a new Mac book pro...thanks to Ryan

Here is what I was thinking...let me know if you think I should get some other apps.

MacBook Pro, 17-inch, 2.33GHz
2.33GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
2GB 667 DDR2 SDRAM - 2x1GB
SuperDrive 8x (DVD+R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
Accessory Kit
MacBook Pro 17-inch Widescreen Display
Backlit Keyboard/Mac OS - U.S. English
200GB Serial ATA Drive @ 4200 rpm
AppleCare Protection Plan for MacBook
Aperture 1.5
Final Cut Express HD 3.5
iLife '06
iWork '06
.Mac - Your life. On the Internet.
Parallels Desktop for Mac
Office 2004 for Mac
GarageBand Jam Pack

What am I leaving out? I remember Mark and Ryan talking about good text editors, and FTP programs for Mac...but which ones were they? Are their any programs that I have above that I don't need....or that I should get? I just want to make sure this is going to work for me. Also this is going to be faster and not freeze like my Windows XP desktop...right?

Thanks!

Re: Mac Computer

It will be faster and it won't freeze. But best of all it won't have vista or xp. The garage band jam packs are awesome by the way. As for a text editor go for BBedit, for me (having played with far too many) it's the best on the market. It's probably one of the most expensive too but quality costs. skEdit is also good and clocks in at a hundred dollars cheaper than BBedit.(BBedit: $125, skEdit: $25). I'm not sure if BBedit is 5 times as good as BBedit but it is the best for me.

The only thing you are missing is a sexy laptop bag, that's a must. What the point of cladding a work of art in some ugly leather thing that was probably designed to hide a dell.

Oh and I highly recommed logic pro, but only if you do a fair bit of music editing/production stuff. It's very good but takes a bit of time to get used to it.

Have fun with your new purchase.

Pete.

Re: Mac Computer

Forgot to add. Preorder CS3 (for mac, of course) what's the point in prolonging an already agonising wait.

Re: Mac Computer

Transmit: http://www.panic.com/transmit/

If you want free Cyberduck may work for you.

I would also recommend ClipEdit, Adium X, AppZapper

As for cases I would recommend anything from Targus.
Also check out this thread: http://www.webradiance.com/off-topic...apps-t122.html lots of good stuff there. OS X pwns, Macbook pro Pwns. You will not feel bad about the decision although I highly recommend Apple care, I wouldn't buy it on a desktop but I sure as hell would on a laptop.

Re: Mac Computer

The programs I use are Transmit ($30), skEdit ($25), Photoshop, Illustrator, Aperture, Think (free), Toast Titanium ($80), TinkerTool System ($10), UnRarX (free) and Pages (part of iWork).

Good choice Jacob! I'm getting mine shortly!

Re: Mac Computer

Macs have a built-in firewall. You can access it via the system preferences pane (very similar to Window's control panel). I've never used an anti-virus/adware/spyware program nor have I ever gotten a virus. Usually, if a problem arises, Apple releases a security fix quite promptly.

Re: Mac Computer

Nice ones, I forgot CocoaMySQL. I use Paparazzi once in a while too. I know someone with Delicious Library and that program is amazing. I'm not nearly that organized, but seeing her scan the UPC code with the webcam and it automatically inputting all the information into the database was really cool. I'm anti CandyBar and ShapeShifter, though. But I'm super clean like that; I don't like the confusion of switching icons and system styles.

Ryan...in love with his computer? I think we should keep an eye on this relationship. I mean the prenup alone would probably be 1000 or so pages... And if there are baby macs...which faith Jobs or Gates...what about schools and colleges....It's to horrible to consider... Ryan, please, reconsider...You're to young to to commit to such a long term relationship....lol:throw:

Re: Mac Computer

No you won't get it for free, but it's not coming out until October... It's 100 bucks for the full version on Amazon usually if you don't want to wait 6ish months.
