I need Safari, or a browser that uses the same engine so I can test my websites for Mac users...
I tried Swift but it's got a bug. Ain't even starting! Anyone?

Re: Safari for Windows
Swift unfortunately is not nearly close enough to webkit on OS X and safari etc also use KHTML which is the engine that Konqueror uses as well. I really hope it matures for all you windows people though. On a Mac it is too easy to test in OS X, Linux, Windows all at once.. You get so spoiled with that heh.

Re: Safari for Windows
Yeah, Browser Cams is not what I'm looking for...
I want a browser that will behave like Safari on Windows. I need to test interactive JavaScript. Still not found a thing!

Re: Safari for Windows
Aren't there any emulators to run OS X on PC's? I know it's not the cheapest solution, but Tiger can be easily found for 100 bucks. At least it doesn't cost as much as Windows.

Re: Safari for Windows
Ok, correct me if I am wrong here Ryan. Some one told me that you could not take a windows machine and format it and put Mac OS on it. That does not make any since...but is it true?

Re: Safari for Windows
You can't run Mac stuff on a Windows machine because the hardware is different - the very basic machine code functions of the processor. But you can get emulators, which will translate machine code functions on-the-fly. (which I what I found today)
I'm still working on it, but if I make it work, I'll be able to run Mac OS X on my Windows desktop like any other program... I'll let you know how I get on (if anyone cares, LOL)

Re: Safari for Windows
No, Macs run on Intel processors now. They use the same types of hardware now, but OS X has built in protection to keep it from being installed on a PC not built by Apple. There have been several people that have hacked it and got it running on a home built computer, though. Even ones with AMD processors.

Re: Safari for Windows
hmmm, I would love to turn my XP pro in to a wonderful Mac!! To bad, I guess I will just stick with my laptop, and live with the desktop for now.

Re: Safari for Windows
Try PearPC. It will let you run OS X. Its free but you need to buy a copy of Mac OS. Apple put locks in OS X to prevent it from running on generic x86 hardware. It "can" be hacked but the PC native releases are extremely crippled. PearPC while not the fastest solution should work. I know it runs at least up to Panther (Which you could get for like $30 now). Best bet would be to buy a Mac Mini or an iBook and then you can run everything on one box natively, however that does cost $$.
BTW XP Pro simply screams on my Macbook Pro 2Ghz in Parallels and even faster in Boot camp. Not to mention you can over clock the ATI x1600 under windows.. *g*

I had an ATI preference pane a while back that let me overclock it. http://thomas.perrier.name/index.html

For example running boot camp apple gives you a Mac drivers img to burn a disc with. That disc enables the macs stuff like the built in iSight etc..

Re: Safari for Windows
Yeah, I'm just saying it's the same type of hardware. Whereas previously it was just dead impossible, people can now get it working, even if it isn't fully functional.

Re: Safari for Windows
Cool. Get tiger, though.
With Macs, you can't downgrade because each upgrade to the OS is so amazing. With windows, 98 to XP provided absolutely nothing new. Jaguar - I started using OS X full time instead of just for pleasure Panther - Exposé. Oh. My. God. I get annoyed when I don't have that kind of necessitated functionality at my fingertips. Tiger - Spotlight. Oh. My. God. I get annoyed when I don't have that kind of necessitated functionality at my fingertips. My bad, Apple evolutionized the way PC's should be. Again. |
