A few questions

Hello, I've used Microsoft Frontpage a lot but recently I've stopped using it until today when I was approched to make a website. I forget a few things and would like to know how to do these things:

1. How do I make a menu on the side? You know those sites that have the main page on the right side, and a menu seperated on the left side? I would like to know how to do that.

Also...

2. How do I make it so that when you click on a hyper link, it will expand so that there are more options to choose from? I'm making my class's webpage and my teacher teached 4 different classes, so I would like you to be able to click on homework, and then the names of the classes will appear under the hyperlink once you click on it.

If you don't understand what I mean but would like to help me, just post and i'll try to explain it better.

Re: A few questions

Frontpage is the spawn of Doug's rotten socks. Best use of Frontpage is to move it to the recycle bin. Then learn XHTML and CSS and do it yourself. Not trying to be mean but man, frontpage is just so awful! It will do nothing but hold you back and make your projects suck. We will be more than happy to help you learn the better way to do this stuff if you are willing to do so.

Re: A few questions

Aaaaah Travis...

I'm not gonna lie to you, frontpage does suck but like all things it does have it's uses and can be helpful if used correctly. But on the most part MooJoo is quite right. you should ditch it and join the wonderful world of hand coding

I don't want to scare you off either. When someone first said to me "You need to code by hand and stop letting Dreamweaver defile your websites" I thought... oh crap! But it actually turned out to be loads easier and loads more interesting than I thought it would be... I think the reason people freak out when faced with this is that they look at a page that dreamwever has spat out after hours of playing with the GUI and they think..."Holy crap! I'll never be able to code that by hand!" But the thing is... you don't have to most of that crap you see is just meaningless bloat achieved by the use of poor coding standards. A page that has been hand coded in clean (X)HTML will be a fraction of the size and will be very easy to read through.

The Key is XHTML and CSS. Now, again I'm not gonna sugar coat this, this will take you longer than a week to learn but please, please try and stick with it... there's nothing to say you can't start this site while you're learning. That said, I don't know how much you already know about HTML and stuff so I'm treating it like you know little to nothing (apologies if I'm wrong) and giving you the basic tutorials...

Enjoy learning is all I say!

Re: A few questions

There is also the two tutorials available from the sticky at the top of the css forum.

One on css driven menu systems and another on templates.

Hey moojoo man - three links at the bottom of your web page don't go anywhere.

Re: A few questions

The new beginnings one? That is because I am lazy and haven;t worked on it in over a week. because I hate it and it is going to die a deadly death.
