At wits end -- need urgent help
Using dreamweaver
Was just updating a website by removing a logo and all of a sudden the pages has changed when viewing the page on the internet. But when I look at dreamweaver the code on the page is still the same. Pages in question are here: http://www.southsideconcepts.co.uk/ This is the code on the page on the server and in dreamweaver with the link to the missing picture:
http://www.southsideconcepts.co.uk/cobra_respraying.htm and here: http://www.southsideconcepts.co.uk/cobra_kitcar.htm All the photos have disappeared but on my server and in dreamweaver they are there in the code. I dont understand. I have uploaded the site now 4 times and I dont understand why the code on the live site on the net is different to the code on the server and dreamweaver. Please help! Thank you! Re: At wits end -- need urgent help
Norton pop up blocker is to blame. It is actually stopping me to see the pictures. This calls for a redesign. What is the best thing I could do?
Any tips/advice please? Dani |

Re: At wits end -- need urgent help
Jacob's right, Norton sucks... However, it is probably the most successful AV product out there today and millions of people use it. If your site is going to cause problems for all Norton users then this is indeed a big problem.
A re-design, I don't think is necessary but a re-write in semantic XHTML and CSS couldn't hurt. It may even solve the problems with Norton...

Norton & MacAfee are very vulnerable to attacks. Everyone uses either Norton or MacAfee. So let’s think like a hacker. Are you going to take the time to hack a program that only let’s say 4% uses, or are you going to learn how to hack Norton & MacAfee. Over 84% of the population connected to the internet uses either Norton or MacAfee. So from a hacker’s point of view, they would probably want to learn how to hack those programs. Now if I were you I would get some of these great security programs.
Zone Alarm Internet Security AVG Internet Security Panda Internet Security Bulldog Internet Security I use zone alarm internet security. Zone Alarm has a triple layer firewall. Plus it does all of the virus and spyware protection as well. Then I use the free version of AVG. AVG has a free virus protection program. Then I use Spybot - Search & Destroy. Spybot is also free and it is a great program to use. Anyway back to your problem. 84% is a big problem for your website. If 84% have Norton and MacAfee then that might mean that they can’t view your website. I would personally NOT rebuild my whole website. I would just fix the code. Maybe some CSS and XHTML like minute44 said. If you need any more help let us know. |

Thanks guys,
Yes, seems that Norton is a problem if the pop up blocker is set to a high setting. So what would be the best code or where can I find the info regarding the photos. It seems that the image map is triggering the blocking function. I still need the small photos to show and require a link for people to click on to see the full sized photos. The easy way would be a hyperlink in the text below the photo but design wise does not look that great. What do you suggest? As you said most people do use Norton so need a good but simple work around. Dani |
