Needing Help

Not sure if this is the right section, but I had to post it somewhere.

Im currently in the process of making a website for a gaming clan, 'usually' I just do the graphics, and my cousin's help/do the coding, but they're on vacation for 3 month's, so Im having a go myself.
Im not doing too badly at it, infact Im doing pretty well considering I dont have much experience, looking up what I dont know and validating my pages on the w3 validation service to correct any errors.

The problem I have possibly isnt really to do with HTML, or it may even be something that isnt possible... and if it isnt, then you guys are the ones to tell me.

Anyhow,
The website looks like the following: http://i7.tinypic.com/21eurkk.jpg

What I need help with:

If you've looked at the picture, you will see the login at the top of the screen squared in red. As it stands, its just boxes... but what I want, is when the username and password is typed into them, it logs into the clan forums. (Like I said, I dont know if any of this is possible ). I dont have any knowledge on that kinda thing, MySQL, PHP? Eh. Any help would be appreciated, even if it is just telling me it cant happen.

Secondly, you'll of noticed the green square highlighting some statistics...Now, the site http://www.runehead.com/clans/clandb.php contains information on this clan, combat average, hp average and member count. What I want to know/need help with is if there is a way I can retrieve this data from that website, and display it on my site so the information on my site automatically updates/corresponds to that on runehead. I know there must be some way of doing this, as I've seen stat look-up's for the game that retrieve information from www.runescape.com highscores, and display it elsewhere.

Like i've said, I have no idea if any of this is really possible, but Im sure I've seen examples of both in the past, finding them is another thing.

Any help/advise would be greatly appreciated,
JimmyD

Re: Needing Help

The login bit is of course entirely possible. How you control the login and what they can do thereafter is another matter.

If you are going to have a 'membership' database, you will need to know something about mysql.

You are going to be controlling things using php so you will need to know about sessions and cookies.

I think you should do some reading in these areas and then ask specific questions as required.

You can only legally obtain the data from another web site if they choose to make it available by some means such as an RSS feed. You will have to look at the information and sites you want to get it from to see if this is available. You can always email the webmaster and ask.

Re: Needing Help

I used to be heavily involved in gaming.

99% of the clans dont make their own CMS. Only the top gaming clans do because they want to make money through it.

So search for a ready made clan CMS, then add your design to it.
