XHTML Validation issues...
Hey guys, I think this is the correct forum for this if not can someone please move it to the correct forum and I do apologize.
My problem is the page http://www.xpcsolutions.com/gaming.htm . I am trying to validate the coding on this page, and while I am not keeping the flash navigation (using Rollovers instead) I'm wondering why the flash code doesn't validate. W3 keeps telling me that the embed and param tags do not exist in valid XHTML and if this is so how can I put flash in a page? Thanks for any help as it will be much appreciated. |

Re: XHTML Validation issues...
I had something similar with standard code and a marquee not being recognised.
Gave up in the end. Sod 'em. |

Re: XHTML Validation issues...
The <object> tag is what makes the IE click box thing.
Anything which uses this tag (applications, flash etc) has the IE bug to go with it. Theres no other way of displaying flash. To get rid of the flash IE bug you need to use a javascript fix. |

Re: XHTML Validation issues...
Yeah, thanks for the code. I'm gonna use it for mine
I have to make it validate though jedi edd, because my validation is what gets me my business. I'm in a flooded area when it comes to webdesigners, but I am the only one in the area that hand-codes so I end up getting most of the bigger businesses which require XHTML validation. Thanks for your help guys! |

Re: XHTML Validation issues...
i would be astonished if a customer said to me they would rather have grey click boxes around all flash than the pages validating. i bet most of them don't even know what validation is!
i'm sure they wouldn't hold it against you if you showed them that the flash is the ONLY thing stopping it validating, and using the javascript fix would also show them that you are keeping up with the times. remember having a page that validates is nothing more than showing off, it doesn't actually add anything to it. i've seen plenty of websites that throw up hundreds of errors yet still display perfectly in all modern browsers. i always add the validation button when i use pure html, but if a site i am doing needs flash i will not compromise it's functionality just to add "another" validation button to my portfolio. making a valid xhtml page is hardly rocket science, where as well designed flash can really make your site stand out. |
