ok
not sure if this should go in the html section, but here goes Basically we have a client, they are a marquee events organizer, they have some nice marquee images on their website but their competitors are stealing their images and putting them on their own sites (cheekiness of the highest order!!) We told them that there were several options of overcoming this but the most effective one is watermarking. However, this obviously ruins the look of the image and would take us forever and a day to do. Their favourite option is to prevent people from right clicking and saving the image. This is a bit of javascript that sits on the page and warns the user every time they rightclick. However, the main flaw with this is that people can still print screen and cut the image out. …They’ve come back to us and presenting a bit of software that will encrypt the HTML, password protect the images and prevent people from rightclicking. Here’s the link: http://www.shareit.com/product.html?...ateid=20000587 I have read through this software and done some research into user reviews and it seems a bit dodgy so, here is where you lovely guys come in Can you recommend any software that will encrypt the HTML, password protect the images and prevent people from rightclicking. Main points a)Does it encrypt the HTML of the whole page? If so does it mention whether search engines can still read the page? b)How do you apply is it to a site many thanks great webforumz wizards |

Re: Encrypt HTML ~ GOOD software recommendations
This doesnt eliminate Print Screen.
If it bothering them that much, there are basically three solutions. - Have the images on the site and ignore the fact that they are stealing the images. - Raise the issue with them personally, and take it further if necessary (if you can prove loss of earnings etc) - Don't use any images. If they are hotlinking, you can prevent this, but if it is displayed, they will cache the image or just do a simple print screen. I would personally confront them about it. Craig |

Re: Encrypt HTML ~ GOOD software recommendations
Put a legal notice on the site saying all images are the property of [company] and any unauthorised use is strictly prohibited.
Then confront them.

Re: Encrypt HTML ~ GOOD software recommendations
If they confront their competitor they may find that a 'cowboy' designer has 'borrowed' your images and they could well be unaware of the fact.
They may actually be grateful for the information. |

Re: Encrypt HTML ~ GOOD software recommendations
i was once set this exact task as a mini-challenge.
the solution i came up with was to embed all the images in a flash movie. obviously you can not right click a flash movie and save the image. when the mouse was off the image, there was a large watermark. when the mouse was on the image, the watermark disappeared, but the mouse cursor turned into a big copyright sign. so if they did a print screen they would either get a big watermark, or big copyright sign. the code for this was very simple, and once you had done one it was a case of simply changing the image and renaming the file, took about 2 minutes per image. and the good thing is you can view the entire image, you just have to move the mouse to reveal certain parts. that was about the best i could come up with. |
