Re: does my site fit right??

No it doesn't fit.

Because your design is fixed width rather than fluid, looking at it with an 800 x 600 resolution, of which there are still a significant number of users, cause a horizontal scrollbar. This is an absolute no-no.

If you are going to go for fixed with, you need to have a max width of about 770px. This is to allow for browser edges, etc.

I wouldn't say absolute no-no... Granted a lot of people (usually people who are nearly blind but too stuborn/stupid to wear glasses for it.) still use 800x600 but if you look around a lot of these showcase sites you'll find many sites that draw their brilliance from the wider design. In fact if you're careful you could make a site with only a horizontal scrollbar, I've seen some nice sites done like that.

It is up to you. If your target audience is people over 40 then I would say Definately make it cater for 800 x 600 but if the site is aimed at younger adults or children then a higer resolution could be more acceptible because, as I've found in the IT support industry, younger people either have better eyesight to see high resoultions or it might be that they simply understand the benefits of it where older people don't. Either way it's your target audience that should determine factors like these on your site.

i think this site (http://browsershots.org/) will render your site in a ton of browsers if u provide a url. u get them as images i think. could be handy as part of final qa.
