Re: xhtml and validation

Its not for that even. the spiders only care about tags surrounding content such as <h1><strong><i> and the content itself.

The validation is for the same reason css/xhtml was invented. Back in 1998 they thought that mobile users would surpass the amount of pc inet users. But its never happened and it never will. So a more strict syntax is so that the small browsers for phones can process it.

Re: xhtml and validation

hmmmm..........

I just can't link html with mobile devices.
In fact, I just can't see any markup language at the moment working with mobile devices (wml included). They better just keep making the screens bigger and add more buttons on those bloody things! lol

Re: xhtml and validation

I am totally frustrated by validation! I have hundreds of errors, yet my sites show correctly in four different browsers. I am working from the designer side, not the coder side, although I did learn basic html. I don't understand how to fix my validation errors , and do not have the time to figure it out. I depend on Dreamweaver to do my code work, and can tweak when needed with the basic html that I know. I would have to go back to basics to learn it all from the beginning. Yet I totally respect this site and the opinions here. My goal is, next big client, I create the site and hire someone to fix and validate. Anyone else in the position of designer with little coding expertise?
Just for the heck of it - go ahead, I am braced, rip my sites:

Re: xhtml and validation

XHTML Strict is the bestest. A lot of the errors can snowball from a single error too. if you go through the rror list and fix them one by one and revalidate you may see the number of errors drop significantly in less time than you think.

Re: xhtml and validation

I validate to html 4.0 Transitional generally, i find that unless you seriously do alot of html work and started from scratch its not worth going all the way to xhtml from a jumble of stuff. 4.0 Trans almost always works as xhtml does, now it doesnt say that your perfect like xhtml does, but in my situations its unnessisary to be. Never the less is would say it is important to validate because that will clear many errors that make different browsers see things differently.

EDIT: actually i just checked, and the template im using is xhtml/css validated with no errors, sweet
