Liquid layout Website

Hi,

I am trying to create a liquid website. I have drawn up a prototype on paint and the image is attached. Can anyone help me to turn the prototype into a website?

Thanks,

Re: Liquid layout Website

Are you looking for someone to build it for you or are you stuck at a particular point in the project?

And by liquid I assume you mean that you want it to scale based on view area etc.. Is that correct?

Re: Liquid layout Website

There are thousands of free fluid width templates available online. Just Google "Free Templates" and find something basic that you can then modify to suit you

sorry mate, but i would not tell people to google 'free templates' unless they specifically asked for that, they are better off learning this stuff for themselves, that way they can use it time and time again, also the amount of invalid free templates out there ( even the pay for ones ) is unbelievable

The problem is though that a lot of people simply have no idea where to start which is why i recommend this. It provides a great opportunity for the user to look through the code and then the css and understand how and why elements do what they do. Telling someone to open Notepad and start coding by hand tells them nothing. They don't know how to add the neccessary starting points for a page such as adding a Doctype, or what and where to place the <head> and <body> tags or what even a Div Class is.

If you start out using something like Serif Webplus for example which is what i started out using all those years ago, it tells you nothing about what you are doing or how it is doing it whereas deconstructing a free css and xhtml compliant template from the likes of www.freecsstemplates.org will give you a better understanding of how things work.

Of course none of this is any substitute from learning yourself but it is a good place to start IMHO. Personally i would recommend the first steps anyone takes is a visit to www.w3schools.com which is an essential resource for any budding coder.

I use dreamweaver which makes my business partner shudder because he hates it but i code by hand in dreamweaver, not using the WYSIWYG because using it doesn't position things correctly etc. Any serious coder codes by hand im sure but it doesn't really matter which editor you use to do that, its more about personal preference.

We obviously have different ideas on how people should learn and i totally respect your viewpoint

Whilst i obviously respect your view point, my personal feelings is that you are far better off learning the basics at a place like w3schools, then just practice, rather than have a template just 'handed to you'

i think in this case it has to be 'agree to disagree' lol

Re: Liquid layout Website

I used templates to begin, but lookin back i have to say i probably spent more time trying to work out what was wrong than if i'd done them from scratch.

but in saying that i have a set of templates i've created over time which are literally just wireframe, that allows me to get a design going quickly, still maybe not the best approach, but certainly the one i've chosen.

However, i think w3c can be a bit daunting to begin with, (it's not easy to follow at first, great for reference though).

I found this from .net magazine, it might help you not only create your finished product, but understand whats behind it.
