Problems with Custom 404 in IE Browsers

Hi there,

I'm having a major headache with a custom 404 error page I'm trying to implement.

Basically its working absolutely fine in Firefox, but in IE its displaying just the default 404 error page, I've researched and researched and the only reason I can find for this to happen is if the 404 page is no larger than 512bytes then IE will overwrite it.

However, mine is 3kb and has a number of includes so definitely reaches the 3kb limit.

How you are programming the error handling? (cPanel, PHP, .htaccess?)

Actually, I'm seeing the same 404 error page (i.e your custom one) in IE6, 7 and FF - so it's working for me :S

IE unfortunately has that 404 page built in to hijack traffic and get them to click links to MS sites, annoying I know. You have to have your page configured 100%.

I have never encountered this but maybe something here will help you.

Note: I had no issues getting the page in IE 6 or IE 7 either.

Hmm...thanks for your replies.

Maybe IE is caching the pages and just throwing the 404 out of memory.

Perhaps its not actually broken.

But still...Microsoft are bloody traffic stealers!
