template problem, need to make changes to a website built by someone else
Hi, I a bit of a beginner with web design, but am trying to do some updates to company's website. Hitting a little snag here though. This website was designed by someone else, using templates with only certain parts editable. I'm using Dreamweaver, but can't find the template file listed below anywhere on the server
<!-- InstanceBegin template="Templates/Main.dwt" codeOutsideHTMLIsLocked="false" --> Am I wrong in assuming this file would still need to be somewhere on the server? Everything except for the editable region are locked up, which is where I need to edit. Any suggestions on how to get around this? Thanks for any help! |

Create your own template file and change the link in the code above?

Re: template problem, need to make changes to a website built by someone else
As far as I can tell, the code is locked, at least using the dreamweaver code view. I'll post the first snippet of code. There is a MAIN.DWT file (but it is in a different folder) anything editied in it, doesn't change the pages built with the template. There is no "templates/Main.dwt" file on the site as far as I can find
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"><!-- InstanceBegin template="Templates/Main.dwt" codeOutsideHTMLIsLocked="false" --> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" /> |

Re: template problem, need to make changes to a website built by someone else
Ok, I think I finally figured it out, just took awhile to find. Found under the Modify_Template that I can detach from template, and voila! I can edit. I couldn't "Open Attached Template" (didn't exsist), which leaves me curious as why the pages still show up using the template, if the template dosen't exsist. Any thoughts?
