PC vs Mac design compatibility
Hello there,
I am working on this web site and it involves lots of background images and also CSS rollover menus. It is looking great in both IE and Firefox on my PC, but a friend told me that on her Mac, the following problems occur: 1- Some 'borders' appear between images where they are seamless on the PC; so the layout gets broken. 2- The links with the rollover images don't show up at all. This is very frustrating because I don't have a Mac, so it is difficult for me to test the results. So as I am trying to correct the problem, I am pretty much guessing. I thought that the CSS background images, borders and rollover properties were pretty common and widely used, so I am shocked that the Mac browsers don't interpret them properly. What rules can I follow in the future to be fairly confident that most common PC AND Mac browsers display the site properly? Thank you kindly for any help! |

Re: PC vs Mac design compatibility
Download Safari for PC - www.apple.com/safari
It uses the same browser rendering system so should display identically.

Re: PC vs Mac design compatibility
Safari on PC uses a port of WebKit which is not quite the same, Firefox itself also has some minor rendering differences between the platforms. In this scenario you may want to try a service like browser shots or similar to get screen grabs on various OS setups. This is why I always use a MAcbook pro for development as you can run OS X and windows simultaneously and browser test everything inluding linux on one box.
Try some of the various screen shot services and see if they don't help you. Just google browser shots or similar. It is hard to tell what may be causing the issues at hand without seeing them.
