How to mark item as "SOLD"

'Just beggining to design a website with no experience, and many of my products are one-of-a-kind. Is there a way to mark an item as "Sold" when someone buys it using a shopping cart (such as paypal or equivalent)? If there is no way to do this, I will have to have customers call me directly to make each purchase.

I have looked around and have not yet found a website with this feature, but I would be surprised if it hasn't already been done.

There are probably a few ways to do this; perhaps just removing the "ADD TO CART" button from the particular item (when it is purchased) would work. Changing the button to read "SOLD" would be even better!

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Bo

Re: How to mark item as "SOLD"

I hope I'm not breaking any rules by giving you my site name, but its "oldmanleather.com". As far as software, I think the answer would be "HOMESITE", but I'm also trying "Nvu" on a different computer to see how the site looks from different machines. I have not yet tried to set up a shopping cart. For that matter, I am still trying to decide how to arrange pages, so don't expect much.

The HANDBAGS are among the one-of-a-kind items.

Thank you for whatever help you can give,

Bo

Re: How to mark item as "SOLD"

The trouble you have is that all your content is static, so as far as I can tell what you want to do is not going to easily (or at all) possible.

Personally, I would be using a proper shop system -this will allow you to set 'stock' numbers and hence will flag a product as sold once it is bought.

One such product is http://www.cactushop.com/ which is pretty easy to set up, fully featured and reasonabally inexpensive.

Re: How to mark item as "SOLD"

Thanks, I will check out this cactushop within the next couple days. In trying to keep my thread short, I did not get into much detail. So far, my website is the creation of a friend of mine who has done a couple of sites for people in our little town, but they are no more than a few pages of information; no shopping or carts, etc.

Since I am absolutely new to this, I am struggling to do anything at all, but I have managed to a couple of things that my friend couldn't, such as the "Flying BD" logo in the background, and my "OLD MAN LEATHER" logo on the home page. Believe me, that was an effort when you are doing this for the very first time.

When I came to your site, I tried not to ask a bunch of easy questions that I should be able to figure out myself, and I do not intend to bother you and the guru's with stuff like that.

Obviously, the question about "SOLD" was not an easy one. My hope is to find a solution BEFORE I get involved with a shopping cart, so as not to do things over and over.

I REALLY appreciate your help, and beg you to be patient while I struggle along with a pile of "For Dummies" books. If I improve my website substantially, I will let you know. For now, I know that it is a disaster.
Thanks again for your help.

Bo
