hey guys im trying to program my site so that when you get an e-mail an icon pops up or a chime sounds or something any help guys??

What sort of email do you mean?
Programs such as Outlook do have a sound when you receive a new email.

like website e-mail like myspace e-mail or something like take couplestouche.com for eample when you get a new e-mail an icon appears telling you so

I think you are leaving the area of HTML there... Maybe refer to the flash or more advanced scripting tutorials for help on that... HTML is a basic building tool for websites...Its also usually the core framework ( in most cases ) making an interactive site as you described briefly will require more flash,PHP,ASP,AJAX etc. for that...
