Re: 800x600 - should we care?

But thats the thing, in order for it to be successful everyone needs to be able to get it. Thats the main thing which is keeping IPTV behind.

How can you moan about accessibility of making it compatible for everyone in web design then its a 'who cares if some small town cant get it?' for iptv, cant have your cake and eat it

My turn to disagree... specifically with this.

Privacy isn't about whether or not you want to be anonymous because you have something to hide. It's a simple matter of people don't need to know everybody elses business online or anywhere else.

They can make this availabe for volunteers if they want. All you people who don't care about being monitored can feel free to sign up. I'll pass though!

I bet 100% of the talkers wouldn't sign up!

I would sign up... And smile while doing it. So some big corporations and some government agencies can see what I've been doing, so what? If it protects me from the geeks writing viruses in their mum and dad's basement and the Zimbabwean prince who's trying to "Keep 5 million dollars in my bank account" I feel it's a fair trade off.

As far as I'm concerned the people who you're worried about getting your information probably already have it. Microsoft, Google, Government powers.

This EU computer license will work in a way that makes it easier to track fraud against you by making it easier for law enforcement to track spoofed IDs. Your information won't be publicly available but it can be called upon if anythng nasty happens to you online...

Let's not forget the primary reason for the thing; to keep people who 100% don't have a clue about how to use a computer, let alone have any clue about internet security, off of the interner and do something about the perpetuation of the crimes mentioned above.

Ok but by the same token I feel that the only people (not companies) who are interested in your information are ones who want to do something malicious with it... I for one couldn't give two S**ts about anyone elses information. But I suppose that's cos I'm not a cyber-thief or a online scammer.

So what indeviduals actually care about your online habits or identity? The ones who this license is going to help stop.

Let's not go into conspiracy theories for a minute and take some things at face value.

What companies and agencies would want your details... and why?
  • Microsoft - These guys want to see trends in the use of computer software and find out how people are using their computers in an effort to write more comprehensive software and also tighten up on their licensing and copyright. We might not agree with this but let's face it. Any company has the right to protect it's income.
  • Google - Again, these guys want to see what were searching for so that they can improve their service by offering more relevant results in a quicker and more convenient manner. Programs like google earth... Just another way of doing this (While providing a really cool tool to the user.)
  • Government agencies - This is the biggie. These guys want your information for more good reasons than I can count. I'm sure they want it for some bad purposes too but that's by the by. Prevention of online crime, Prevention of international terrorism, views and opinions of citizens who vote for them...

lol minute44 uve been listening to too much propaganda, Bush has put the fear of terror in you...

The whole idea is just stupid, the internet is a free information resource. Restricting people goes against why the internet was created.

And who decides who's good enough to go on the internet and who isnt?
Dont back stupid things like this please, just goes to show how stupid humanity is.

No no no, you've read that wrong...or maybe I worded it wrong but that is not the result I was getting at...

I've got nothing against people being able to look at and do whatever they want on the internet. As long as they are aware of risks and are sensible...

It's just I work in IT support and I deal with people day in and day out who are blatantly ignorant of what risks they are presenting to themselves online by not having anti-virus, following links on emails and downloading every bloody stupid screensaver and ringtone from every dodgy website pop-up! Fact of the matter is, people using the internet in this way increases security risks for the rest of us by allowing all kinds of malicious software to perpetuate...

Re: 800x600 - should we care?

Sounds like a really interesting thread. Shame I missed it....

But I was just wondering...
how did it go from "800x600 - should we care" to Microogle Agencies, alien abduction and the fact that people are stupid ???

Re: 800x600 - should we care?

Sure, the entities mentioned already have established methods for retrieving demographic information, but these methods have nothing to do with tracking everything we do online while knowing exactly who we are at the same time. There are rules they must abide by for gathering this information and it was put in place to protect our privacy.

Now, here you are, wanting an open door policy. Again, no thanks!

I bet you support tracking chips being placed in everyone also? That was a stupid ass idea some self declared genius conjured up. Didn't get far.

It's not long until you'll need to pay your TV license for having a PC on the internet... Internet TV is coming and coming fast. With media centres becoming more commonplace and certain ISPs already trialing 100Mbps broadband it could be the next big thing.

It's great. It gives you an ID online and why shouldn't you need to provide ID online? You need to provide it in the real world. As far as I'm concerned the only people who should be against this are the ones with skeletons in their closets.
Sorry, forgot to keep up with this thread. lol
Don't suppose you have any links to any discussions about this do you? It's the first I've heard of it and am very interested in it.
